The birds of prey flying display is stunning, very well presented with an entertaining and educational commentary and expert handlers. The owl and hawk centre is fascinating, seeing such a variety of birds from around the world at such close quarters is a privilege. The gardens are also spectacular, as are the views out towards the Lake District's mountains from the castle.

Lots to do. Great views. Shame you can't take photos inside. Several tea rooms. Birds of prey are great.

I recommend the Friends of Muncaster card. We visit for free throughout the year and thoroughly enjoy every time we go. The woods change through the seasons and there are plenty of events to keep each visit new and different. Very good value for money.

This is a magical place! The Castle itself tells so much history and, at Halloween it's especially good. The birds of prey are very special and never miss the handlers flying the Owls, Vultures and Hawks. Awesome!

A lovely day out! We particularly enjoyed the owl and hawk show and the audio guide of the castle, voiced by the family. The audio tour was full of interesting anecdotes and the history of the fascinating castle. It's really nice to visit and know that your money helps to ensure that the castle remains family owned. We saw the family working at the castle (at the ticket desk and at the bird show) so it's clear that they work hard to ensure that it's kept as a family home. There's a great playground, cafe, gift shop and own and hawk bird centre so something for all the family and it's well worth a visit if you're in the area!

We visited Muncaster Castle in April 2017 and were very impressed. We did not enter the actual castle as we had our dog with us but the grounds were fantastic. Well planned out and there were so many interesting parts to go to especially the bird of prey displays. My favourite was the bluebell wood which if you are prepared to go to the top you will be rewarded with the most amazing bluebells covering the whole of the area with the sun streaming through. The smell was gorgeous. Cafe food was excellent and we felt good value for quality food. Well worth a visit and thoroughly recommended.

Beautiful Castle and gardens were in full bloom. Looked great. Heron feeding was incredible to watch. Staff in cafe were slow and the food was overpriced and poor quality -stale sandwiches so recommend you take a packed lunch. Price was quite steep, if you like artefacts pay the extra to enter the castle but if not pay less and admire the architecture from outside.

Loved it - just happened to stumble across the castle while away for the weekend. It history was amazing and the fact it is still in the family after 800 years is special too. There are audio tours, and at times are narrated by family members as well as actual items from 100's of years ago. Free parking and a discount as an English Heritage member. We were lucky enough to be in the right season to see the Bluebell Forest come alive in blue! Beautiful.

Probably the best family day out that you can get in the Lake District. Beautiful grounds, fantastic bird display, wonderful castle, friendly staff, nice cafe, kid and dog-friendly. Well worth the (beautiful) drive.
