About National Animal Welfare Trust Clacton

National Animal Welfare Trust rescue centre in Clacton, Essex, rehoming around 300 cats and dogs a year. Opening hours: Cats: 11am-3pm Dogs: 11am-3pm

National Animal Welfare Trust Clacton Description

The National Animal Welfare Trust's Clacton site was originally set up by Ann and Reg Sims in 1984. It was entrusted to NAWT in October 2011 following the Sims' retirement after 25 dedicated years of service.

We rehome around 300 cats and dogs at our Clacton centre every year. Every animal has been individually assessed and cared for by our experienced and dedicated staff. All animals are vet-checked, neutered, vaccinated, wormed and microchipped before being rehomed.

NAWT have a local charity shop in Clacton and can accept donations for the shop direct at the centre. In addition to charity shop merchandise we always welcome any type of dog /cat bedding as well as toys and treats.

It's a boy, it's a girl, it's another girl ....
Our heavily pregnant cat, Katie had her litter of kittens on Sunday and what a fantastic job she did. Five little bundles of joy. Today was our first weigh day and health check and we discovered Katie had delivered one boy and four girls. She is a fantastic mummy and both her and her kittens are all doing well - as you can see. Stay tuned to Facebook as we will be posting more updates at key milestones.
Obviously these cuties are not ready to leave mum yet, but we will keep you informed.

Calling all small pet owners! Some lovely NAWT Clacton supporters have donated a brand new 80cm small pet cage, it's never been used and is still in its box. As we don't have any pets small enough to benefit from this home, we thought we'd offer it for sale. Online these retail for around £27, but we are offering it for £20. Bargain! And you will be helping the cats and dogs we're currently caring for. 👏😸🐕 First come, first served and collection only!

Animal Care Assistant Sarah is running the London Marathon this year to raise vital funds for our centre. Sarah would like to do each mile in memory of someone’s beloved pet who is no longer with us 🌈 What better motivation!
If you’d like your pet to feature on Sarah’s marathon t-shirt, please send us via private message a photo of your pet and the number mile you would like to feature on. The cost is £20 per square which will go towards Sarah’s grand fundraising total ❤️ #MORT4NAWT

Sarah Morton has been an animal care assistant at our Clacton centre for 16 years!! ❤️🐕🐾 And she’s about to have a 26.2 mile moment of madness! #MORT4NAWT
Yes that’s right, Sarah’s running the London Marathon for homeless and abandoned animals! 😻❤️🐶 If you can help show appreciation for Sarah’s dedication to animals and make every painful mile worth it 😂 then you’ll find the link to donate below! Thank you! 🙏

It’s the news we’ve been waiting for! 🥳
The star of our recent Facebook appeal, reaching 35000 people, has only gone and bagged himself a home!
Gorgeous Tommy was in our care a whopping 226 days but now, finally, has a loving family to call his own 🥰🐈

Pumpkin and Autumn were rescued with urgency by our Clacton centre staff.
Needing round the clock care, our centre manager Lizzie took them home and started their journey of rebuilding their trust in humans.
You can read their full story below and, if you would like to help save future animals like Pumpkin and Autumn, £5 donated today could make all the difference 🙏

🥰🥰 IN RECORD TIMING, WE HAVE A DVD PLAYER ON ITS WAY. THANK YOU SO MUCH! 🥰🥰
Can anyone help? 🙏
We have an indoor space for our dogs where they can have a much needed break from their kennels 😴 It also allows us to work on training in a home environment- teaching skills such as settling down, relationship building and playing nicely.
... This is so important for all dogs, but especially our stray dogs where we have no background information on their experience in a home 🐕 We have pretty much everything we need in there to make it more home like...except one thing!!
We need a DVD player for our TV 📽 This helps dogs settle with the background noise of the TV...just like the case with most homes!
We’ve added one to our amazon wish list but will happily accept a working second hand one if anyone can help 🙏
If you can help, please PM us or drop a comment so we can let everyone know we are sorted 😊 Thank you, from the woofs! 🐾

Our boy Cody is one of our longest staying residents...and he’s without someone to love this Valentines 💔
To cheer himself up, he’s been getting involved with one of his favourite activities. We use botanical self healing in our cattery which allows the cats to self select oils and herbs to help with their physical and emotional well-being 🐈
So we delivered Cody his very own bouquet of roses to make sure that he felt the love this Valentines ❤️🌹 Rose helps cats to relax, calm... and balance and bring out their playfulness! 🥰
Happy Valentines Cody. Paws crossed someone comes to love you forever soon 🙏

With the weather being miserable and less time spent on walkies, we've been busy keeping our dogs just as busy...using those clever brains of theirs!! 🤓

Missy’s wondering if you’ve got space on your sofa for her? 🙏🐾🐕
