We do not ask victims of rape to regularly meet their rapists for a cup of tea. So why does this broken system put the rights of the abusers over the rights of traumatised children? Let's STOP abusive contact which re traumatises our children and hinders recovery. Be brave. Step up. Challenge the current lazy climate of placating the abusers over the rights of the children to feel safe.

Reparenting children from trauma is HARD! So many challenges and frustrations but the rewards outweigh everything in the end.
It’s less lonely to be walking this hard road alongside others to hold your hand at the darkest times helping you to get what you NEED for your children.
NATP was not there for me when my children were growing up so we soldiered on alone, isolated, sad and largely confused.
... We created NATP from the needs and wishes of parents just like you in this group. Step parents, adopters, bio parents, foster parents...
ALL of us have something in common. Something somewhere went wrong. Our children might have been abused and neglected, there might have been domestic violence, there may have been illness or separation issues around pregnancy and birth.
These issues have left our children with developmental trauma which manifests in lots of different way. Dyspraxia, ADHD, even Autism. This is not our fault. We are all doing the best we can.
NATP is not for profit, £4 per month and will walk with you. Don’t be alone like I was. Www.naotp.com

NATP have launched their Clothing Hugs ❤️💙💚
These are great to use for children that feel wobbly when their parents are not around.😥
You can explain to the child to look at it when they feel worried as reminder that you are thinking of them, love them, will see them later and/or to remind them they are doing great! ⭐️ ⭐️
... You can view them on the NATP at www.naotp.com/shop

⭐️Unsafe Parenting⭐️
Lots of parents are getting confused between Therapeutic Parenting & Unsafe Parenting Unsafe parenting allows violence, aggression, rudeness, conflict, and extreme behaviours but avoids parent expressing anger, using misplaced empathy in all situations.
... Therapeutic Parenting DOES NOT!
Recently there have been a lot of members saying things like 'I can't do therapeutic parenting because I can't just sit here and empathise with my child while they hit me' Good, because that is NOT THERAPEUTIC PARENTING!
Our children NEED us to be the unassailable safe base. To be strong with our boundaries and routines and to be clear with them about what is, and is NOT ok.
I understand that often our children behave in unacceptable ways. Our job is to steer them using clear direction.
So for example it's ok to show APPROPRIATE anger and say loudly 'Stop that right now' BUT then we move swiftly to repair. 'It's ok, /you're safe, / I've got you/I still love you' etc but that behaviour is not acceptable.'
We TELL our children what we expect, we don't ask them. I.e. 'It's time to lay the table. Thank you!' Not 'Please can you help me and lay the table?'
I know we often have children where difficult behaviours are entrenched already. We have to start how we mean to go on. Firm boundaries using natural or logical consequences to build connection and cause and effect… WITH nurture and repair.
You can find out more about this through the National Association of Therapeutic Parents website, training and resources. (C) Sarah Naish 2018

The Unintentional Warrior
New turn of phrase coined today at our conference in Alabama.
Our children were not born into peace and tranquility. They were born needing to protect themselves, to learn fast, to adapt to the difficulties they face.... They did not choose this life. They have had to become warriors. They have had to learn to fight for things which others just take for granted. When they fight we say they are controlling or defiant. They didn't ask to be warriors. They wanted to be children. When our children come to live with us we have to start sorting it out. We wanted a family. A normal loving family. But we have to realign ourselves with therapeutic parenting. We have to explain why we parent the way we do. We have to roar at schools and the system which tries to break our children. We didn't want to be a warrior, we wanted to be a parent. We are all unintentional warriors. But at least we are walking the same way and fighting the same war. Join NATP today. You are not alone.
