Autism alert card update This is an update about the progress of the autism alert card scheme. As some of you know, this is a credit-card sized card that autistic people can carry, to alert others that they are autistic if they come into contact with the authorities. The Rotherham Branch of the National Autistic Society have, in the past, issued such cards, but we have had to suspend this recently because of new data protection legislation. We are having ongoing discussions w...ith South Yorkshire Police about the launch of an updated version of the card for autistic people in Rotherham. These discussions are ongoing and, while we are not yet in a position to issue new cards or replace existing ones, we expect to have further updates within the next few months. We will post again on this page when we have more news. Those who have expressed an interest in the new card have been contacted separately too, and will contacted again when new updates become available.

The NAS Rotherham Branch would like to ask their supporters to contact to their MP, to ask them to attend the upcoming Understanding Autism training session that is going to take place in Parliament on Wednesday May 1st. The session is being organised by the National Autistic Society and the All Party Parliamentary Group on Autism. Details can be found on this link: https://www.autism.org.uk/…/campai…/a utism-training-mps.aspx and on that link: https://act.autism.org.uk/page/4...0049/a ction/1…. To write to your MP, send a letter to: (MP's name), House of Commons, London, SW1A 0AA. The local MPs are: for Rotherham: Sarah Champion; for the Rother Valley: Kevin Barron; for Wentworth and Dearne: John Healey. It is best if you write a letter in your own words and explain why it is important to you that MPs understand autism. MPs pay more attention to such letters, and they also pay more attention if many of their constituents contact them about a topic. We at the NAS feel that the needs of autistic people and their families are often overlooked by lawmakers, and the training session is a good opportunity to make MPs aware of autism issues. Alternatively, following the links below will take you to a page where you can generate an automatic email to your MP. Please also share this post to your friends.
