Mwanya, Eastern Province, Zambia with no electricity or running water - is plagued by wild elephants and has conflict with other wonderful (by our judgement) wildlife. It’s probably the remotest destination we’ve reached but twelve months to the week since our visit the items we assembled in four containers have arrived to great celebration. The pictures say it all – it was a GREAT day!
Because it’s so remote and our chances of re-visiting are slim we decided to deliver... in ‘one hit’ so that the entire school community benefitted significantly and much bartering went on – but no theft, the community is far too basic and simple. It’s the last week of their winter term but when the students come back in September it will be first time in their history (ever) for every child to have chairs, desks, cupboards, books, uniform, underwear for the girls and importantly shoes to get there. School rolls will triple, teachers are motivated and the PTA’s formed. Good job everyone – THIS is what we work for! Community changing for the better.
Thank-you everyone. @sals_shoes @SmallsforAll @schoolblazeruk @MansfieldRotary @WarsopIW1972 @InnerWheelGBI @InnerWheelInt Boots2Africa

Accra, Ghana. (See post and pics of 2nd August 2018). This container was subjected to scrutiny, verification and argument but eventually after eight months it was released from the port to be delivered to King David Hospital and @RotaryInternational in Accra. Thanks to @RotaryStories @royalhospital @SFHFT @nottmhospitals @DerbyHospitals @MansfieldRotary

Very rural Kolongo – Mwape schools, Eastern Province, Zambia. The first district where senior school girls have been comprehensively supplied with the washable sanitary towels to allow them to continue school. Such social engineering brought Zambia’s First Lady Esther Lungu to preside at an endorsement ceremony. The pictures are of the people that matter – the first generation of girls who will continue through school not have to drop out because of the embarrassment of periods. More power to you, and thanks to Amina, Marion and Maria from NPAC working with @InnerWheelInt Smalls for All

SI Walsall receiving unused old school uniform from the Phoenix Academy with local MP Eddie Hughes. The uniform will be taken NPAC next week and they will ship it to Africa. Really great that items no longer needed here can be used elsewhere. @Eddie Hughes MP @Soroptimist SIGBI @National Police Aid Convoys

SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL WALSALL reports..... Uniform and school bags from the Phoenix Academy safely delivered and handed over to NPAC in Mansfield today. Along with 2 sewing machines and a typewriter. Had a lovely chat with Joan and David, both volunteers there, and now have a good insight into what items are really needed. Eg stationary items, paper and children’s books are very sought after so please contact SI Walsall if you can help. You last saw these containers on 14th March 2019 being loaded at Mansfield. They are now up to the last 5o miles of their journey, at the furtherest extent that conventional transport and lifting gear can go. This isn’t the most sophisticated way to lift them down, but at their next destination for schools in Mwanya, Zambia it’s likely they’ll be tied to a mango tree whilst the tractor and trailer pull away. Thanks to everyone who contributed @Boots2Africa @sals_shoes @SmallsforAll @HellyHansenUK @Joulesclothing @Bodenclothing

When tropical cyclone Idai https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyclone_Ida i made landfall near Beira, Mozambique on Mar. 14, a spokesperson for the UN World Meteorological Organization called it possibly the the worst weather-related disaster to hit the southern hemisphere.
This massive and horrifying storm caused catastrophic flooding and widespread destruction of buildings and roads in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi.
The consequences for NPAC's Godfrey Mumba and Amina Patel in Lusaka are that the ships carrying our four carefully coordinated and staged containers were held off port for a while, and have now all arrived together! Going to be busy!

Wanda Adams, our secretary is leaving us at the end of this month following ten years (pre-Facebook!) dedicated service. The pictures show her at the end of the May 2019 management meeting with the team including new secretary Helen Murray.
There’s a ‘bit-of-a-do’ after our AGM on 11th July if you want to join us.
Thank you Wanda – you have kept us safe and helped NPAC help thousands of people around the world.

Jayne Gogodus at Malamulu in Malawi learned to train sewing and pad making in 2017. It's going well as you can see. Well done everyone, what a difference it's going to make.

User

What a difference a crutch makes. Thanks to everyone involved in donating, fixing, loading and delivering all the walking aids. Look what you’ve done in Zambia where our friends there actively seek people out the need them.

Lusaka, Zambia. Teaching sewing skills to unemployed women from the compounds is a wonderfully sustainable side effect of the Cinderella Wedding Dress project (once-worn UK frocks) and manufacturing the re-usable-sanitary- towels-for- schoolgirls project. With the free use of a vacant office, sewing machines from the UK and a lot of enthusiasm from Amina Patel a great charitable project has evolved on the outskirts of this dusty city. Empower the women, change the world! Pictures are of the Cinderella ‘salon’ and a few weeks production of pads for one school.
