About National Trust Killerton

This is the official National Trust facebook page for Killerton.

National Trust Killerton Description

There’s plenty of calm space in the glorious garden, beautiful year-round with rhododendrons, magnolias, champion trees and formal lawns. You can explore winding paths, climb an extinct volcano, discover an Iron Age hill fort and take in distant views towards Dartmoor. More family home than grand mansion, the relaxed house also holds the National Trust’s largest costume collection, with selected items exhibited every year.
Lots of events and activities happen all year round. Follow us to hear more.

The Heartbreak Produictions team are setting up in the garden ready for this evening show of The Midnight Gang. We've had lots of enquires today but even with the rain the show will go on. We have been looking at the forecast and are hopeful that it will dry off this evening. Be sure to bring your picnic and don’t forget the waterproofs and umbrellas too just incase.

We visited today. We went on the guided tour today with a lovely lady. She made my day so friendly and happy for us all to ask questions. We were really lucky with the weather. We walk in the grounds all the time with the dogs but today decided to leave them at home and visit the house. Only downside was only one of the cafes did a cream tea at 1pm which was by the entrance.

User

Thank you so much to everyone who made our day so wonderful yesterday at killerton! What a lovely place, the grounds, house and people. We loved the wind in the willows display and meeting Father Christmas was just so lovely. What a well thought out room and a lovely Father Christmas and even the elves. So thoughtful. You can always rely on a NT property to think of the special little things. Happy Christmas !

Stunning place, beautiful garden and woodlands. I will be back

User

Large gardens. really nice to walk around. Lots to see . House definitely worth a visit

User

It's a beautiful garden and house and everyone is very friendly and helpful!

However!!! Since when do you have to pay and display in the car park???plus you cannot pay just to go in the gardens now, and seeing as half the house is being repaired I think you should go back to the old way! I want to carry on visiting the gardens, but I'm not sure I will be able to do so quite so often with all these additional charges!!

User

I'm writing this because it's all so easy for people to criticise these days, but sometimes they don't always think to stop and say thanks! 'Courtneys of Whimple' thoroughly enjoyed the Classic Car Day at Killerton yesterday. In our experience the staff & volunteers are great & work very hard to make people feel welcome.Killerton is such a lovely place to visit. Thanks again,!😁

I came mid afternoon with my boys Had a good visit to the house while my boys went to What they call forest school (as that's where they went while at St Andrew's primary school for forest School with a teacher a few years back). The boys are 14 & 12 years old. So i had a peaceful visit in the house and spoke to a couple of the volunteers in the rooms very pleasant they were too knew all about the estate too... When I came out from the laundry room my boys had come to find me and we had a drink and a biscuit then went for a walk in the forest together.. Xx :-)

Had a magical day at Killerton Rob gave us a buggy ride and told us all about the gardens the lost house very informative, he was very kind and helpful Margaret took us on a buggy up to the chapel too

The post office Mill and Makers house all very interesting. We are members so we were able to enjoy it all without it being a costly day

User

Had a great time there yesterday . Taken on a guided garden tour by volunteer Nick Cox . Very knowledgable and informative. The variety of trees is amazing. The views are fantastic. The house suffragette display was also good. We were going to take that guided tour too but missed it due to enjoying a nice lunch there. The Chapel is worth a look too. Tucked away but amazing to look at.

User

Beautiful place with lovely staff I wasn't overly interested in the woman's vote details but I found the subject really brought to life and learnt a lot!

User

Beautiful house and gardens, great cafes. Displays were interesting and the paths around the estate well signed and in good condition

User

Went to Killerton for the first time yesterday and were given the chance to spend the day as a guest of the National Trust, we had a lovely time exploring the house and grounds and enjoyed learning about the family's who have lived there, we had lunch and tea there and bought some beautiful plants to take home as well as many photos. We will definitely become members of the National Trust and visit more places in the future.

User

Visited Killerton NT on 15th July to take part in a parkrun event along with approximately 400 runners. Set within the beautiful Killerton estate, the scenic course takes you through upland woodland and down in to open pasture land mostly on grass or rough tracks. The 5k route is a lovely location but is probably a muddy affair in the winter months. Good parking facilities with toilets and tea room. Didn't visit the house.

User

Try Wicked Wednesdays for families in the summer months and give sports events on Tuesdays a try, have fun by learning something new. The garden is very pleasant, rather steep in places good for the buttocks! But can be difficult for some disabled people on foot, ask at killerton reception to see if they have an all-terrain buggy that can be borrowed. And there is the Dairy cafe now in the garden which is smaller and more personal. There are paths around the garden you can push the pushchair or just sit and relax on the lawn beside the restaurant and let the children run free. I like the variety of the garden and of course there's up in the woods for more adventure if you get bored on the flat. Hope you enjoy killerton as I do.

User

The house and grounds were lovely and the kids enjoyed the mouse hunt. Only 2 negative points, we were almost pushed out of rooms as there was a tour group and it seemed they didn't want our 1 and 3yr olds disturbing them! Also we took a picnic and when we tried looking for a bin we were told that they no longer provide a bin for picnic rubbish and instead ask people to take it home with them. Little annoying when we had a 2hr drive home and a weeks worth of holiday packing in the car already. The guy at the car park was very sympathetic though and didn't agree with the new bin rule!

User

Excellent performance of the Tempest last night by the Lord Chamberlains Men. The outdoor setting coupled with the backdrop of Killerton house and some good weather ads for a memorable evening. The NT volunteers guiding cars in and out and directing one to the stage area was, as ever done in in a quiet, polite and friendly manner. Well done for hosting this event

User

We were looking forward to walking the dog but, although the initial welcome seemed sincere, it was difficult to find a path through even with the map (which is now essential for walking dogs)

This time we ended up out side the grounds and gave up and went home.

Surely it should be OK to walk the dog around on a lead in most places but not inside. I guess it's their call but doesn't change our disappointment.

User

We love visiting Killerton; fantastic for all ages but... on our most recent visit I was horrified to realise I paid £4.50 for a hot dog!😱 It was a cheep bread roll and a very small sausage; far, far from £4.50s worth or anywhere near it. Even when taking in to consideration the funds going back into Killerton, this is simply disgusting pricing and very disappointing. Whatever you do, take a picnic!!

User

Don't bother if you have a dog and a pushchair. We drove 3/4hr to come for a day out only to find that the only places we could go were on the designated dog walks around the fields. Not ideal when you have a small child in a pushchair and there are cows in the fields so there are divots everywhere. We left after half an hour with a mud covered pushchair an unhappy child.

Very disappointed
