‘On Friday 12th October, the Long Room was the setting for Oxford University Afro-Caribbean Society’s ‘Meet and Eat’, an event adored by ACS members as the first real setting in the year where Afro-Caribbean students can meet one another, outside the hectic frenzy of Freshers Week.
With Jollof Rice abounding and Afro-Beats on the stereo, attendants were able to establish new inter-college and inter-year friendships, and discuss how they were finding the Oxford experience as ...Afro-Caribbean students. Near the end of the evening, the ACS committee introduced themselves, explaining their various roles and what they contribute to the society.
The event is particularly important in a place like Oxford, where Afro-Caribbean representation is relatively small, it’s of fundamental importance to know some familiar faces and have a safe space to discuss and explore the issues and life experiences of Afro-Caribbean students. New College is proud to have hosted the evening.’ -Kendya Goodman, New College JCR President
