11th Aug - A mini-festival to celebrate and raise Tim Smith's funds for his ongoing care.
The wonderful CARDIACS have blessed us with some majestic music, and the main man needs a little help on his quest to get better. All profits from this festival will go directly to Tim and his cause.

Back by popular demand!
The Smiths UTD is a Lincoln-based The Smiths tribute act. The classic four-piece Smiths lineup paid homage to by four Smiths-mad lads from the flatlands! All the classic hits and more.
Gig review Robin 2 Bilston 29th July 2016... "The Smiths UTD were great value and their set an excellent choice. Ask, Shoplifters of the World, What Difference Does it Make? The hits kept on coming and the crowd responded as they edged further and further forward onto the dance floor. They sounded ace and it continued throughout until they brought the house down with renditions of This Charming Man and There is a Light That Never Goes Out. The crowd lapped it up like the cat that really had got the cream ... we were UTD in our love for a bit of nostalgia by the time the three‐and‐a‐half‐hour bumper sing‐off sadly drew to a close." Leigh Sanders
The audience comments speak for themselves!
“Probably the best #thesmiths tribute bands you'll ever see. Close ur eyes & it was pretty close to the real thing. Well done TheSmithsUtd” (tweet 30th April 2016)
“top gig last night @TheStudioHpool #takeabow" (tweet 10th April 2016)
“Well impressed with gig tonight, I saw The Smiths 30 years ago brought back some memories” (Facebook 5th August)
“I've seen a couple of smiths tributes... and they were definitely the best by far, Morrissey had a gritty realism, was great to watch and listen too, thank you for the best night I've had in a long time and keep up the good work, Smiths Utd!!” (facebook 1st August 2016)

Terrific night watching AC/DC experience!

Saw the REAL Band at NEC years ago - good gig but too big a venue - plus trip there and back etc.

Seen various Tribute bands in pubs and at festivals etc.

This place was up there with the best!

Good size - main pub area and then gig hall - band mingled with the crowd during the interval and after the gig.

Support band "Gold from Stone" were top notch too!

Top marks all round!

User

Right then.

First off, it's in Lancashire, so coming from a Yorkshireman, I were a bit sceptical, so this better be good, yeah?

OK, so I were there cus me band were playing there. Rocked up, parked up, checked it aht and aye, it were lookin' half decent.

Staff were very helpful as were the fellas int music room.

So, we ad us dinner - and it were crackin' - apart from no Yorkshire puds, but it were a Frahdeh, so lerrem off, eh!

Best of all were mah faverit beer - Berliner Pilsner. Aye, Ah know it's not John Smiths, Black Sheep or owt, but theer, Berliner is MAH fave, arlreet? So, grand start.

Lads 'n lasses that ran t'place and either staff or management were spot-on, food were champion and beer were top notch.

Grand spot - crackin railway bridge opposie t'place too - grand fodder and the best music Ahve ever heard since seein' Rammstein in Berlin, 2016.

Aye, Ah'll tek me 'at to 'em - not bad fer a booncha Red Roses!!!

I came here to celebrate my wedding and these guys made it an absolute dream! A special shout out to Stuart, Scarlett and Joe who provided exemplary customer service and made our night nothing short of magical! A fantastic pub with brilliant bar staff and top notch food!

User

Had a brilliant night here last night celebrating my brothers 50th birthday. The food was top drawer and the service friendly and efficient. Prices are excellent for food of this standard. Every single person commented how good their meal was. We had use of the snug room afterwards and although we were a small group the staff couldnt do enough for us and nothing was too much trouble.

User

Great location, lots of beers to choose from, menu to die for and a brilliant gig to witness.

User

Enjoyed a great afternoon in the beer garden drinking excellent beer. Had the Ribeye steak cooked medium rare to perfection. The people were really friendly who I met there, it was dog friendly, kids friendly (without screaming kids being intrusive on an adult afternoon) and they have a wonderful intimate venue for gigs. I enjoyed seeing John Otway and I will be back again. What a find! Great Pub.

User

A confy and not smelly pub that offers various rooms with various styles - dark colours, fireplace, colourful cute lamps, off white clean main area, conservatory and beer garden.

Also serves good food (I had the lamb roast) and nice gigs.

User

Had a nice time and overall the food was good but stew in a dish with a pastry lid is not a pie. A pie should be encased in pastry - you used to do it like that so a bit disappointed. Everything else was smashing!

User

Great beer, great food, chilled atmosphere. The Thai chicken and lemongrass risotto I had on Friday was delicious. My group were also very pleased with the lovely, friendly and efficient service we received. Will be back soon!!

User

The music is brilliant, the food is delicious when you get it, but the waiting time and attitude of the manager are appalling. I was turned away twice from the order point and told to come back in 10 minutes. On my third attempt, far more than 10 minutes later, I was told I should have pre-booked as they get very busy - if you know you get busy you need more staff and better systems in place. The manager was shouting at bar staff to serve - there was a long queue at the bar.

Great venue, very badly managed.

User

Saw our favourite tribute band Limehouse Lizzy last night. They were brilliant as usual but it's normally December time when they play in Preston. Several times the bar staff were asked if the air con could be switched on only to be told eventually that it doesn't work. We were stood at the back of the room and it was so hot and stuffy that people were stood in the doorway to hold it open for some relief. Get it fixed people! It probably only needs topping up after years of neglect! Shame as it just took the edge off the night for us

User

Love the conti...especially on a hot sunny day...however the price of a pint of lemonade is a disgrace.....£3.70.....40p dearer than a pint of lager!!!! Scandalous and feeling very ripped off!!!

User

Just had sandwich on our bike ride round guild wheel hubby had chips with his on menu it said £2.00 to add chips so after I paid realized I had been overcharged went back and they had took £3.95 for portion so I said leave it expecting a descent portion not to be? Sandwich was nice but bread a little dry soz just being honest next time will carry on to next pub!!

User

Going on a sunny Saturday you expect the place to be busy, on this occasion it wasn’t overly packed. However I do find it ridiculous that we had to wait 55 minutes for soup and a sandwich!!! Never visit if you’re in a hurry or want a quick bite, bar service always slow as well. Could do with a few more staff on at weekend

User

Went here for a drink with my family and our dog thinking it would be nice to have a relaxing drink in the beer garden after a nice walk on the park.We found a table which was disgusting, what's wrong with the glass collector, who was collecting glasses regularly, carrying a spray and a cloth to keep the tables clean?!Also a clean supply of water for dogs would be a great idea as in many other places our furry friends are catered for.

User

Came over the summer and ordered two roast dinners. By far the worst meal I've ever had in my live. Packet everything. The freshest bit of the meal was a raw tomato with a spooon of horseradish on. How exciting. Food took maybe an hour to come out. Could have been longer. Friends then later joined us and tried to order food, however was told the kitchen was over run and they was no longer serving however we sat and spectated as other people ordered and ate food following this. It had been a beer festival the day before and so no choice of children's drinks left or beers for my partner I suppose not the staffs fault however the beers festivals are a regular event here. Two stars on location and outdoor space only. Walking inside is dark and a little dingy. No management of staff so non of them know what's going on

User

35 min to make two sandwiches and chips.

The place wasn’t even busy.

User

Me and my friend had an hour for some lunch so we ordered a salad something quick and easy. After 40 minutes of waiting I asked how long the salad would be the waitress said 5 mins. Other people who had ordered burgers after us and had received them! 15 min later still no salad! So after almost 1 hour of waiting for a salad I went in to cancel as we had to go. The manger served me and her customer service was shocking! I explained the situation and she said they are here now but we had to leave, No apology nothing! She said “ give me your card! “ no please or thank you. And after the refund said “there you go” with a snotty face! No sorry nothing! Absolutely stinking attitude how she was a manger I do not know!

I Normally love this place & everything about it but yesterday I found the staff were unhelpful & not very customer friendly. I stopped in for a drink whilst on a walk with my daughter, after an hour or so, at 14.25 my daughter said she was hungry so I asked the waitress if I could order just a bowl of chips at the bar or did I have to go to the food till. She told me that they’d just stopped serving, I could see people still receiving food so I asked her if it possible to just get a bowl of chips, she said she’d ask but didn’t think so. She carried on laying a table, returned to kitchen & came back with more cutlery and laid another table. I ordered drinks at the bar while waiting for her to come & tell me the outcome .......... she never did! I asked the bar staff what time did food orders stop & was informed 14.30, it was at that point exactly 14.30. I pointed this out to the bar staff, along with telling him I’d originally asked the waitress 5 minutes earlier so surely I should have been able to order, he shrugged his shoulders & finished serving me my drinks. Up to 30 mins later there were still bowls of chips and other food being served (granted to people who had probably ordered well in advance of the 14.30 cut off) but it makes me wonder at that point what hardship would it have been for the chef to cook an extra bowl of chips along with the ones he already was doing, especially as I did ask before the alleged cut off time. I’m not even certain the waitress made the enquiry, she certainly never came to me with an answer. Very very very disappointed!!! I look forward to a response from the manager.
