#FactsAt50 with Hair the Musical
‘Make love, not war’ the anti-war slogan commonly associated with the American counterculture of the 1960s, features heavily within Hair. Particularly as the show was born amidst the tensions of the Cold War, 1969 being the year Henry Kissinger became US National Security Advisor and Secretary of State, whilst the Sino-Soviet split caused tensions along the Chinese-Soviet border to reach their peak that same year. Yet most historically, Muamma...r al Gaddafi and his revolutionary army officers seized power of Libya from King Idris. Thus, amongst the youth movement mobilising to promote a message of love and pacifism, war still raged on. Mirroring a lot of issues still faced regarding international relations.

When to see Flashdance on Saturday night! Amazing show! All members of staff that I spoke to were lovely and happy to help! Maybe in the interval have more staff on the stalls bar because I only just got my drink and sat back down before the second act started! All in all fab night!

User

User

User

Thank you to everyone (staff...cast ... and other members of the audience) who were fantastic when my little girl was poorly last night and unfortunately we had to leave in the interval. From what we did see the show was fantastic. Have a fantastic run!

User

Attended Menopause the Musical at Wimbledon Theatre last night, with good friends. One of our group uses a rollator, and we had checked several weeks ago, in person at the box office, and by telephone, about the system for disability access. Well, we weren't disappointed. The details we had been given about the street level access, the lift to the stalls, and the storage of the rollator, were all correct. The system worked like a dream for us. The staff were friendly and very helpful. They couldn't do enough for us, to ensure that we had a hassle free evening. The lady who took us in at the street level access, and took our friend in the lift, was there to help us again, at the end of the show, and couldn't have been more helpful, polite or supportive. She was lovely. The gentleman usher, in the theatre auditorium, in the stalls area, where we were sitting, showed us to our seats, ensured we were comfortable, took our order for our interval ice cream, and told us it would be delivered to us, in our seats, which it was. He helped with the rollator, checked that we were fine, and told us that we would be assisted with the lift etc at the end of the show, which we were. He also told us to just ask if we needed any further help. The polite, caring and helpful staff we dealt with, were a credit to themselves and the theatre. We had a fabulous evening, saw a fantastic and hilarious show, and had a very relaxed, and hassle free evening, thanks to the great staff who helped us, and the excellent system in place, for giving the necessary assistance, to those who need it. Well done Wimbledon Theatre and staff and thank you.

We have recently been to this theatre to see the shows Cabaret and Cilla then last night This is Elvis which is great and Steve Michaels is brilliant. We had seats in row D in the stalls plenty of leg room. Love this theatre it's a great venue with helpful staff and it's an easy walk from train station. Will be back!

User

Saw the Adams family. Great cast + production. NWT is a gem on the outskirts of London. Great customer service especially in the box office. My only complaint is the temperature. Been a few times now and needed to take a step outside during the performance as it gets far too hot.

User

Me and my hubby went to see Grease on Saturday while the show was fantastic we were a little bit dissapointed with the fact you could not see the orchestra because it was set too high on the stage and this was the opening scene so we started on a bad note apart from that it was brilliant loved it

User

I watched Wonderland with the amazing Kerry Ellis and the cast were fab, I'm a regular visitor to the Theatre. My only problem with most Theatres is there are never enough Ladies Toilets so there is always a mad rush at the interval. 😊

User

Been coming to Wimbledon regularly since the pantos as a child and am now an ATG card member, my only negative is the drink prices are more expensive than the west end theatres... at Grease the musical in Saturday night it was ÂŁ15.40 for a shandy and a glass of wine!

User

We saw The Knights of Music which was fantastic with an amazing West End cast and band. Of course Phillip Schofield didn't disappoint either with Close Every Door - goosebumps đŸ˜ŠđŸŽ¶

However the theatres prices for drinks were extremely expensive and paid ÂŁ16.60 for two glasses of wine served in plastic pint glasses! Not exactly what you'd expect when spending a fair bit on tickets already and did some what take the edge of the theatre experience.

I won't even mention the ladies toiletsđŸ‘ŽđŸ˜±

User

In need of some TLC. It has good touring productions and is close to London, but the seats are not comfortable and the staff are quite rude. They didn't have any programme's when I went or a cast list. Just told me to look at the production's website...

User

Very disappointed with the pantomime this year. Too much chat with just a few people in the audience, lack of good songs and dance routines, story kind of took a backseat trying to fit in Al Murray’s normal type of show, and lacklustre performances. Normally Wimbledon put on a great show with a great cast, but not this year. Such a shame

User

The performance The Knights of Music was fantastic but the theatre itself was a let down. When I got there just before 7pm there were queues at the door to get in and we seemed to be mingling with the people who were collecting tickets hence the queue. Eventually someone came to the middle doors and we were allowed to go enter via them. Once inside I was directed down stairs to the stalls but was told I couldn't use the toilets until after they had been cleaned which would be after 7pm. When I went back upstairs to find another toilet I was told the same thing. Surely all of the toilets couldn't have been cleaned at the same time! Oh and speaking of loos even when I managed to find an open one they were not very clean and had cubicles out of order causing long queues. When I asked about buying a programme and the CD I was told these were only on sale in the bar upstairs. Surely that could have been mentioned when we were admitted or they should have been on sale inside like they usually are. I have been to this theatre loads of times but this is the worst it has ever been.

User

Just been to see Jack and the Beanstalk. This is our usual Christmas treat for the family. I was very disappointed this year. It was the Al Murray show and not even a good one. There was too much adult content and very little story line for the kids. Some good little dances but hardly saw them! The 3D show was terrifying for the kids and I couldn't wait for it to end. Couldn't hear the singing and we were 3 rows back in the dress circle. Def wasn't worth the ÂŁ45 per ticket we paid. Very disappointing I'm afraid New Wimbledon and not your usual standard!

User

Despite receiving an email before the show saying to allow extra time for increased security, I was really surprised by the lax attitude of the venue. We walked into the theatre, into the circle and into the stalls to take our seats without a single person asking to see our tickets, let alone do a bag search.

User

Jack and the beanstalk was simply awful. Don’t waste your time and money on this appalling excuse for a show. There’s no story, just Al Murray’s awful adult Jokes, which are just not child friendly. The 3D section scared my child witless.

User

After contacting the theatre about previous poor pantomimes, I was really disappointed to see that nothing has changed! The latest production of ‘Jack and the beanstalk’ was dreadful. I really think the production team needed to go and the Palladium’s pantomime. It was extremely funny and the effects superb. I and my friends are not going to Wimbledon again! Really sad.
