Mixed 1st ended their winter season in Div 7 with a convincing win over Magdala C. Newark started at 36-0 as Magdala failed to field a full team of 6. Although the Newark side had to take it in turns waiting this didn’t hamper their results as 1st pair Sam Smith/Sara Jackson continued to be ruthless and took their matches 11-1, 12-0 (35-1). Adrian/Steph Smith were back on court after missing the previous match and conceded only 5 games at 9-3, 10-2 (31-5). Sam Butler playing ...again this time with Tamara Bainbridge took 8-4, 7-5 (27-9). The team now celebrate another team promotion as they finish top of the league, 4 points ahead.
In the meantime the Ladies 2nd started their summer campaign in Div D of the short format league. Sara Jackson/Annie Davies playing together for the first time took their single set matches against 2nd & 3rd pairs 6-0, 6-0 and their double set match against 1st pair 6-1,6-1. Similarly Katrina Dines/Jill Pinder 6-0, 7-5 then 6-0,6-1 and Cptn Lynne Hare/Annie Walton 6-3, 6-0 then 6-0,6-1 in an overall team result 73-12.

**Successful Tournament & Fundraising Event** Lots of club members turned out in storm like conditions to ensure the spring doubles tournament and fundraising event for the club was a success. 11 couples took to the courts at the club and Sherwood Avenue to play in a 3 round event which saw them qualify, play in a round robin and then 4 pairs proceed to their respective finals. Ashley Hallam/Marcus Hallam played in the cup final against Sam Smith/Sara Jackson. After losing to... them in the round robin, they needed to raise their game and after an initial loss of serve Smith/Jackson took the lead. The match became intense at 4-4 with everyone needing to hold serve but some excellent passing shots saw the Hallam brothers take the match 6-4. Meanwhile Lynne Hare/John Jessop took on Annie Davis/Becky in the plate final. The match was almost finished as Hare/Jessop sat at 5-2 however Davis/Becky made an excellent come back with a variety of winning shots and took the match 7-5. The day ended with all players celebrating together and supporting the clubs fundraising efforts towards the rejuvenation of some of the grass courts which have been unplayable for some years but are needed to ensure the future of the club by providing enough facilities for the increasing membership.
