This weekend is the 14th anniversary of the first parkrun, which took place in Bushy Park on 2nd October 2004. What a phenomenal thing those 13 time-trialers started... We are a mere 8 years old. Results from today are now live online. It was a chilly day so we got you away exactly at 9.00am, catching out a few latecomers who expect us to always start a bit late 🙂 Well done to all of our runners, joggers and walkers today, and a big thank you to my team of volunteers. Pictured are some of my own club mates enjoying their run while saving their legs for a cross-country race tomorrow. PS Some lost property was handed in - message us if you mislaid anything today. Russell and the team.

I’m delighted to report that there are NO, repeat NOT ANY, missing tokens from this week’s parkrun. Tyne Bridge Harriers clearly have a way of making people hand them in...well done! Russell.

As many of you know, I started the Centurion Galleries in the early years of Newcastle parkrun to celebrate the milestones reached by determined parkrunners.
As time passed the numbers reaching their milestones increased to such a level that I was forced to stop adding new Centurions to the Galleries, although I continued to update the information on existing Centurions.
... Sadly, it is becoming more and more difficult to update the Centurion data and photos, so the latest Gallery update will be the last. The Gallery will remain accessible in its present form and rest assured, I have no plans to remove it.
So, a big thank you to all of the Centurions, old and new, for their tenacity and dedication to parkrun.
Wear your milestone T shirts with pride! maggied

Results have been uploaded to the parkrun database. 620 of you walked, jogged, and ran your way around 5km, cheered and marshalled by (mostly) Tyne Bridge Harriers. Thanks to all who took part. If you spot errors, drop us a line. Have a great weekend, Russell and the team.

We are seeking a 4th barcode scanner for tomorrow - if you are available please post below. Thank you.

Yesterday was my 3rd Parkrun & I love the atmosphere even in the wind & drizzle as it's so well organised & the volunteers do an amazing job cheering you on when you most need it! It is busy but that's because it's so popular & welcoming, all ages, fitness levels, families with pushchairs & dogs you can run a pb or jog or walk, try your best. Exercise is a great thing to do on a Saturday morning to get your weekend off to a good start for your fitness & wellbeing so this is a great thing to do! Thanks so much to all the volunteers & organisers you do a fantastic job inspiring us all

User

Very well organized and great fun

User

Very friendly and polite staff who make everyone feel like they are welcome to run!

User

Thank you to all of the volunteers at the Newcastle parkrun today, who made sure the parkrun went ahead on a very cold and wintry morning. I'll be back to get a PB, but not when the snow is on the ground hahaha.

Much Respect!

User

Stop making excuses and get involved! Walk it if you need to! The guys and the volunteers are there to cheer you on and keep you going. The best way to start your weekend by far! :)

User

My first park run this morning and whilst I was worried about getting up early and running in the cold it soon dawned on me that the volunteers had been there much earlier and were also braving the cold. Thank you to everyone involved what a fantastic service

My 100th park run in memory of my father in law Philip Byrne who died earlier this week as a result of Parkinson's Disease. A lovely man who never let the disease define him. Thank you to park runners at Newcastle for their support. Any donations to Parkinson's UK much appreciated via virginmoneygiving AndyMellon giving page

User

It’s a great course and relatively flat. Despite the awful weather I really enjoyed my 1st Newcastle Parkrun and my 8th Parkrun in total.

User

I was only watching. My fiancee was doing her first park run so I was standing at the finish line. We did listen to the beginner's breif at the start but I still wasnt sure how the finish would work with over 600 people coming in to get a time but was very impressed to see how it worked so well. The marshals were on the ball with getting the runners over the line and in the correct queue. And they were spot on taking the time of each runner. Well done to you all

User

I love doing parkrun on a Saturday morning however it is getting pretty busy now and was wondering how accurate the timings is and how they do it?? I was near the back this morning for the volume of people, and set my timer away when I started the run. Stop my watch at finish line and I got my sub 30!! Great but having stood in the tunnel for nearly 2mins will.this then be added on to my parkrun time? Not sure how it works?

User

Fun non pressurised environment with runners of all abilities simply enjoying a run out, supported and organised by great volunteers and all this for free

User

First time at this parkrun and some great pictures of me and my partner too. We usually visit Newcastle once or twice per year and honestly didn't know this town Moor was here, will sure visit this parkrun again next time we are back.

User

Dear Newcastle Parkrun organisers, volunteers, and parkrunners,

It has been a lovely year volunteering at the Town Moor!

Thanks for teaching me that Parkrun isn't just about free weekly 5k runs. It is more about living as a part of the community and motivating each other to reach their personal fitness goals. Coming to England for the first time, Parkrun was a totally new concept for me! I appreciate and cheer for all the parkrunners who get up on a Saturday morning (even if it's windy, rainy, cloudy, or sunny) to come and enjoy a run/jog/walk at the Exhibition Park. A huge shout out for the volunteers, as being one of you, I know that it is hard considering the weather conditions sometimes. But, we managed to get by as always! Thanks to the photographers as you have helped us to have an invaluable collection of our moments spent here. A huge round of applause for the Run Directors for your continuous weekly voluntary efforts in successfully organising the events. To all the wonderful people I met this past year, best wishes for the future! Hoping that the Newcastle parkrun remains successful as ever in the upcoming future ahead. This is me signing off.

Yours sincerely,

Anukrati

P.S. - As a regular volunteer at the barcode scanning and finish tokens, I would like to request to all the parkrunners to bring their personal barcodes, collect the tokens, get both of them scanned, and return the tokens back to the volunteers (until the system changes). We always wish you to get your time recorded to encourage you for your fitness goals.

User

Brilliant volunteers are so friendly I love doing the parkrun even did it when the beast from the east was here

User

As a 1st timer, I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. Newcastle Parkrun had been recommended to me and as the numbers of runners swelled I know I was involved in something bigger than expected. (699 runners to be exact so my result email stated) Well organised and enjoyed by so many just a great experience to be involved in...even a volunteer cheered me on at the 4km marker, what a great lift. Thank you so much and I will be back next week for my 2nd run...keep it going please!

User

A great sports event in Newcastle City Center! All ages, gender, religion, people with dogs, with children, those running for a PB, volunteering to help others run safely are invited. Great positive atmosphere that raise awareness about the importance of exercising to a healthier lifestyle in an environment that welcomes diversity! I love the Parkrun! Run it, jog it, walk it... Change your life!
