Our recent visit to London Metropolitan University superlab was one our Students will never forget! Our Level 2 Pre-Access Science Students were given the opportunity to experience carrying out experiments in the Superlab (the biggest in Europe 😱).
This workshop was then complemented by a motivational talk by the head of Chemistry about the opportunities open to them in joining Higher Education after completing their level 3.
Thank you London Metropolitan University for having us and allowing our Students to engage with your jaw-dropping Science facilities! 🔬🧪😄

Newham College Cricket Team Wins London-region AOC Cricket League with victory over Leyton Sixth Form College! 💪🥳
They've beaten the likes of NewVIc, Havering, St. Doms, Leyton Sixth Form College, and Sir George Monoux in the process! 🏏
... Newham College has won the London-region Association of Colleges (AOC) regional league title will now challenge the very best that Birmingham has to offer (7th June) before potentially competing in outdoor national finals next month for the first time.
Newham Manager Zaheer Daleel said; “A great way to end the league season. The boys have done really well and to win the league without being beaten is impressive. I’m really pleased to see some of our younger players coming through and we have a nice mix of youth and experience in the team. We’re still in two cup competitions so the guys can’t relax just yet.”
Captain’s Quote (Atesaam Syed, IT Student): “We were very good today, credit to Leyton as they did their best but we have a lot of confidence at the moment. We’re looking forward to seeing how we do against teams from other parts of the country so bring it on!”

Fantastic to see many young secondary school Students full of excitement and intrigue at our STEM Fair on the 24th of May. We held these fun, inspiring workshops, hands-on experience to allow year 7-11 Students who have an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths to get a real feel for the subject.
Schools brought their Key Stage 3 & 4 students to partake in workshops such as Physics & Light, Energy in sweets and snacks, Engineering workshops, and much more. T...hey were also given lectures on the topics where students were given the chance to engage in a fun Q/A session to find out more!
Thank you to all Schools and Students that participated. We hope you gained better insight into the course and had a fun, practical experience.

Today the Korea Association of the Vocational Rehabilitation Facilities for the Disabled came to Newham College to visit and learn more about our Special Educational Needs & Disability (SEND) department.
They are working on a project that aims to build a system where people with learning disabilities are trained to get a job in a local community under the sponsorship of Asan Foundation established by the founder of Hyundai Motor Group.
They have been recommended to visit our ...provision and are interested in learning what is being done in the UK for students with learning disabilities to be able to move on with their life after they leave school. They are especially interested in how they are supported to find employment.
During their tour at Newham College, they visited the fantastic facilities of the FOCUS floor and how it supports our SEND Students' learning and daily occurrences. They were then shown a presentation of how Newham College and Newham London work together to support SEND students employability after studies.

Newham College’s Comeback Wins the Derby!! 🏏 💪
• Newham College’s Cricket Academy produced a stunning comeback against local rivals NewVIc at Flanders Field, East Ham.
• A good start by Newham’s bowlers, with Captain Atesaam Syed particularly impressive, was quickly forgotten as NewVIc opener Nehal and Captain Jawad began to build a steady partnership in good conditions to bat.
... • Despite making a couple of breakthroughs, Newham’s bowlers struggled to make an impact as Nehal began to free his arms and score heavily. Nehal (75) scored a brilliant half-century as the rest of Newham’s bowlers wilted in the heat and NewVIc posting a superb 150/4 from 20 overs.
• This left Newham with a mountain to climb as they searched for an unlikely win to keep their league title hopes alive.
• Newham’s opening pair of Syed and Nasratullah Ahmad struck several boundaries to reach a 69-run partnership but lost Ahmad just as they were in the ascendancy. The Newham team began to fear the worst but in came ex-NewVIc student; Manav Patel to steady the ship and support his skipper. Both Syed and Patel began a sustained onslaught and duly smash boundaries all around the ground to come close to pulling off an amazing victory. Syed reached a superb 77 and Patel ended the game with a huge six which went out of the ground as Newham reached 155/1 off 18 overs. The relieved Newham team sprinted on to the pitch to spark great celebrations.
• Captain, Atesaam Syed, said: “wow that was amazing! I can’t believe we just did that. Some of us were down and out when they scored 150 but we were absolutely brilliant to pull that back. We bowled really badly but Coach Zaheer told us it wasn’t over and he always says “never give up” so we didn’t, and I think we deserve that victory over a top team. Massive thanks to my two batting partners today!”
• Man of the Match: Atesaam Syed (77 runs & 2 wickets)
• Newham College play Leyton College next week with the chance to win the league title!

Today, the Royal Docks Academy attended an Electronic Installation Taster session at our Stratford campus #NewhamCollege. It was an eventful time for them to learn more about #Engineering & #Construction, gain hands-on experience and learn more about how courses run!
Frankie, Ronny, Joseph and Mustaq said they loved the practical activities, had great fun learning electrical skills and could all now wire a plug!

Well done to our Humanities Students fundraising event last week on the 15 May to help support the Centrepoint Young People's Charity. ✨❤️
Centre Point is the UK's leading youth homelessness charity, supporting more than 10,000 homeless young people each year to get them off the streets.
The Students ran a cake & bake sale, car washing service, raffle and Jar of jellies completion and worked really hard throughout the day jointly raising £356 😱😱
... Fantastic effort by them and to all those who contributed :)
