HistoryFounded in 1938, they were among the founding members of the South Western League in 1951. Although they only stayed in the league for two seasons, they rejoined for a longer spell in the 1960s but left again in 1971. After a long period in the South Devon League, they were admitted to the Devon County League in 1996, where their best position has been third place in the 1999–2000 season. Newton Abbot Spurs also have two other teams who play in the South Devon League in Division One (Newton Abbot Spurs Reserves) and Division Four (Newton Abbot Spurs Third Team). The Reserves won the Dartmouth Cup after extra time and a penalty shoot against Harbertonford in May 2010. The Third team suffered relegation to Division Four after conceding 108 goals in 26 games and going through five managers. In June 2012 before the 2012–13 season, the club faced some bad news when the FA refused to allow them to enter any national FA competitions because they do not have toilet facilities in the home and away dressing room, and the referee's room.
