Newvic - Newham Sixth Form College

Newvic was an amazing college with diverse students and staff. The only thing is their gym was a tiny box room where you can hardly breathe because of the very limited space, which only accommodates 4 people - which is ridiculous. They have recently gone through a renovation which i haven't seen myself but hopefully they expanded their gym as well. I studied there in 2011-2013

Went to this college between the years 2014 - 2016. Studied Maths, Computing and Sociology. The maths and computing departments (teachers for computing are maths teachers) are very good, teachers are very helpful especially the elderly female teacher who made my experience at NewVIc a very memorable one. The maths department - again - is very good. Teachers are always willing to help you out and explain things to you.

This college gets and will continue to get a lot of bad rep. This is only because they literally take anyone in, but don't let this spoil your experience/stop you from going to NewVIc, as most of these people do BTECs etc. so if you want to do A Levels in STEM subjects or A Levels such as Economics, History (the slightly more difficult subjects), you should be fine. However, I should warn you that occasionally some disruptive people (such as those you see standing around outside) do make their way to STEM subjects - but do not despair, they tend to bunk or at worst leave at the end of the 1st year.

Now, the sociology department as a whole isn't great however, but if you happen to get one male teacher - who may annoy you occasionally or more often - you should be in safe hands - so long as you remember to do your homework and bring in your lever arch folder!

Overall, it is a decent college with improving facilities - especially with the new building which is yet to be opened.

I dropped one star from the rating mostly due to the fact that I had to inhale much more cigarette smoke than I would've liked - which was none.

Bad from start to finish and still giving me problems even once I've left. Fights and threats to me were not taken care of. My mental health issues were not taken seriously until I was almost leaving and my grades had suffered. There were a few good teachers that really helped me out during this period but I felt more punished than supported most of the time.

Now I have left the college and they will not let me get my certificates. They kept them to hold an award ceremony I did not wish to attend as it was exam season in uni (this was months after I left). Now I want to collect them again for a third time and I have to book an appointment which takes 2 weeks but cannot be done for at least 2 months in which they can destroy the certificates as they are only required to keep them for a year (which I was was 2 years).

Sad thing is my year was an improvement from previous ones. It's a joke.

Terrible service and administration. They said my passport was illegal so they kicked me out off enrolment. please stay away from this!

You'll never truly understand the beauty of this place until you're a part of it. A place where friendships, memories and futures are forged.

The teachers are fantastic and willing to help you with your work. The sixth form has a very nice friendly and easy going atmosphere.

Horrible Staff/Admissions Team.

Went to enroll there to a course, said my GCSE Results were fake and that I needed a reference from my college.

Got a reference came back and they said everything was fine and that I had a place in the college, so I paid my deposit and was ordered to come back in 2 days to print my ID Card.

When I came back I was told my spot was taken and my deposit meant nothing, told the staff about my experience and started an Internal Investigation with the head of education at the college.

I was left with 1 day to enroll to another college, luckily I did.

Stay Away!

I went to this college in 2008/2010. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and this rating goes mainly toward the teaching quality instead of the college itself as I understand it has been a long time and time can change a place drastically.

The teaching quality for thia college, specifically the Humanities are next to none in the Borough of Newham. The teachers are well versed and well read and as far as I am aware, they all work together very well. Despite being in such a hard area for teaching, and despite being underappreaciated and lack of tools, they do a fantastic job of teaching.
