Nihr Nottingham Biomedical Research Centre, Hearing Theme Description

The National Institute for Health Research Nottingham Biomedical Research Centre (NIHR Nottingham BRC) offers some of the best facilities in the UK for supporting research in the hearing sciences. In particular, our commitment is to pursue research through multi-disciplinary collaboration that can be translated into practical benefits to improve the quality of patients’ lives. To do this, we bring together well-established, internationally recognised experts and some of the brightest talent in our discipline. Our vision is to improve the quality of life for people with hearing-related problems through our research.

In 2008, NIHR established a Biomedical Research Unit in Hearing in Nottingham with a grant of £3. 75 million over four years. In 2012, NIHR awarded £6. 25 million to further support our broad portfolio of research for another five-year period. In 2017, NIHR awarded a further £23. 6M to establish the NIHR Nottingham BRC.

NIHR Nottingham BRC is a partnership between the University of Nottingham and the Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. It also has close links with Audiology and Ear /Nose /Throat services and with national charities supporting people with hearing-related problems and tinnitus.
