About Nmea Tools
We produce NMEA devices for interfacing marine electronics, GPS receivers etc.
Nmea Tools Description
TeamSurv offers a number of NMEA devices, initially developed for their crowd sourced bathymetry but also being made available as products in their own right. These include:
- an NMEA0183 to Wi-Fi gateway for connecting your instruments to your apps
- a USB NMEA0183 data logger for recording data from your GPS or instruments

Hot tip: When connecting to our Wi-Fi gateway, remember to use http and not https to get a successful connection.
From time to time, people ask us if our Wi-Fi gateway will work with the Navionics chart plotting app.
The answer to this is no, not because of any shortcomings on our side, but because the Navionics app has been designed so that it wil only work with a GPS built in to the device.
Why is this? Well Navionics chart cartridges are much more expensive than the same data downloaded into the app, so they and their dealers make a lot more money from them. So they have intentionally... limited the functionality of the app, to try and avoid people dropping their expensive chart plotter and using an app on a tablet instead.
Of course, there are many other good quality chart plotting apps around for you to choose from, which haven't been hobbled by their developers.

If you are on the verge of ordering from us, note that there are postage rate increases coming in at the end of the month, as Royal Mail is increasing its prices on 26th March.
We are steadily building up resellers for our devices. As well as the UK we have Italy and South Africa in place, with more in the pipeline. And of course we ship worldwide, with orders from Greenland to Korea so far. http://nmeatools.com/Resellers
Is a gadget converting between NMEA and Wi-Fi a gateway, an adapter, a router or what? Read the answer in our blog! http://nmeatools.com/…/gateway-converte r-bridge-router-or-a…
If you can't wait to get your hands on one of our NMEA devices, we now offer express shipping via DHL as well as normal postage.
How to distribute all of your data over Wi-Fi? One of our customers asked if our device could be used to receive data over Wi-Fi, and then distribute that over Wi-Fi to all of the users. Although this isn't a scenario we envisaged when designing the device, it is quite simple to implement. Physically, you just connect the NMEA In and Out ports to form a loopback. Then you set up the device to receive the NMEA data over TCP, so there is a 1:1 link from the source transmitter. This goes out over the loopback and back in to the device, where it is transmitted over UDP to all the client devices that want to receive it. Job done!
Problem solved, and the blog is also working properly again now
Unfortunately the NMEA Tools web site has gone down - a software upgrade broke the content management system. Please bear with us whilst we fix it.
