Nonna'S Gelato Description
The inspiration behind Nonna’s Gelato all began 85 years ago with one wonderful, little Italian woman. Born in a small, rural village nestled into the Umbrian countryside Elsa Paltracca is one of nine brothers and sisters. Like many Italians, family and food are the most important things to her, especially sharing homemade recipes with her family. To her food is always at its finest when enjoyed together, its at the heart of the family, a way of life, a ritual, it deserves time and respect.
Over the years the Italian tradition has been adopted by all around her, including her Granddaughter, Sophia. Sophia wants everyone to be able to experience the best quality, homemade produce passed down over the years from her Nonna. And of course gelato is her favourite food of all!
Sophia and her sisters have been brought up in England by their Italian Mother, Giovanna and British Father, Donovan and we’re obviously biased but we think that half Italian and half British is a winning combination! We’ve plowed this winning combination into months and months of recipe experimentation. From our family run kitchen in Highbury, we produce homemade, artisan gelato and sorbets made in the traditional Italian way with only the best British and Italian produce.
All produce is sourced locally including the very best from Kentish Cobnut farms, London microbreweries and London bees, to name just a few. Where possible all our produce is organic and our milk and cream comes from the UK’s very best organic Jersey cows. We support the Slow Food movement and apply this to our ingredients and processes, supporting sustainable farming and artisanal skill. However we want you to enjoy our gelato the slow way too, leisurely with friends and family, just how Nonna likes it. We hope our gelato brings you as much pleasure as we get from making it.
