Looking for someone to do a "Tip Run" for you?
People are moving to social media more and more, looking for people to clear their waste – but, be warned! Just because someone holds a "Waste Carriers Licence" doesn't mean you are safe from your waste being disposed of illegally.
1. A registered waste carrier cannot take your waste to the "Tip" or "Dump" - waste should be taken to a designated Waste Transfer Station not to the household waste recycling facility.
... 2. If some is collecting waste from you e.g household waste, they must hold an upper tier waste carrier licence.
3. A lower tier licence is for waste generated as part of a business e.g. Gardener who cuts you lawns, hedges or a builder removing waste from work being done.
4. You should always check the licence number and ensure it is valid by checking with the Environment Agency, this can be done online at https://environment.data.gov.uk/…/searc h-waste-carriers-bro…
5. If you are paying for someone to remove your waste. Request a waste transfer note, this will protect you should the waste be illegally dumped.
6. Always keep details of the person you use e.g. vehicle reg, licence number, contact details and even screen shots of adverts or messages sent between you.
7. Remember if it's cheap it's probably not legal.
If you are an illegal waste carrier remember Fly-tipping is a criminal offence punishable by a fine of up to £50,000, or 12 months imprisonment if convicted in a Magistrates' Court. The offence can also attract an unlimited fine and up to 5 years imprisonment if convicted in a Crown Court.
