Northumberland National Park

The Northumberland countryside is absolutely stunning and steeped in history. There are fabulous beaches, castles, rolling hillsides and beautiful rivers and streams, not to mention the famous Hadrian's Wall that was home to legions of Roman soldiers over 200 years ago. From small picturesque villages to the larger towns there is something for everyone, young and old and the region is home to Europe's largest indoor shopping complex (The Metrocentre). From its borders with Durham and the Land of the Prince Bishops in the South, to the amazing Scottish border lands in the North and the fantastic Cumbrian landscape to the West, the beauty of this region has to be seen to be fully appreciated. You will not be disappointed.

I loved the few days I had cycling through Northumberland. Fantastic countryside which is very quiet compared to other national parks.

Great views! Stunning beaches with blue blue sea!

There's lots of walks and trails to explore with plenty signage on the way round. Every now and again you can discover the odd gem that nobody will really know about.

At The Sill for work. New visitor centre, Hadrian's Wall. Easy to get to and excellent facilities. It has a shop, exhibition centre, youth hostel and cafe. There are also some lecture/classroom spaces. There is a rooftop viewing area with marvellous views of the landscape. The cafe is large and airy with an outdoor seating area. (I can recommend the sausage sandwich at breakfast time!). The YHA looked comfortable and also looked to offer good food for its customers, (they have some outside space with a "star-viewing" hammock), more importantly, there is a gate leading to the pub next door! Great new facility.

Visited the park in late February, does get pretty windy and rainy out there, so be sure to have your best raincoat on. The walk along Hadrian's wall was picturesque, with lots of attractions and photography opportunities.
