About Norwich Theatre Royal

East Anglia's premier theatre presenting a mix of high quality musicals, comedy, dance, drama, opera and family shows all year round.

Norwich Theatre Royal Description

With over 250 years of presenting theatre in the centre of Norwich, the Theatre Royal is the largest and most successful theatre in the east of England. Over 400, 000 people attend over 400 performances each year, ranging from shows for pre-school age children to grand opera, and everything in between. We feature the best of West End shows from big musicals to great dramas, alongside dance, comedy, family shows, opera and music.

Norwich Theatre Royal is an educational charity, working with thousands of local young people each year across training courses in theatre skills; educational visits and workshops; and work with the wider community as well. Stage Two is its new education and training centre (opened 2016) which houses all this work, and the theatre’s Learning & Participation team.

The theatre has 1300 seats, spacious front of house areas with two bars, two function rooms and a café /restaurant and is fully accessible. Regular access performances are scheduled: British Sign Language Interpreted performances, Audio Described performances, Captioned performances and Relaxed performances.

Ticket prices for every performance start from £7 or £8, and we aim to keep the top prices at around 60-70% of what you’d pay in the West End for the same show or similar.

If you’re coming to the theatre more than two or three times a year, then you should consider joining the Friends scheme, which offers priority booking, discounts on tickets and access to special events, all from as little as £15 a year.

User

this was the first show I had seen at this fantastic theatre since I saw Treasure Island here as a child way back in 1984. fond memories of that evening came back to me last night as it appeared that the setup hadn't changed a great deal. very friendly staff and ushers. thank you.

User

Wonderful show tonight from 10CC. Excellent sound, lovely venue, friendly helpful stuff. Highly recommend.

User

Went to see the Jersey Boys and it was a great show, well worth a look. Also the theatre was really organized so good that you didnt have to wait to get in or get out. Now thinking about going on a regular basis and seeing more shows

User

Went to see that'll be the day on Sunday 17th, must say what a great feel good show, mix of songs you know and some comedy along the way if you see this show advertised go along well worth it a good 2 and half hours on stage there is a break so 3 hours in all.brilliant night

User

Went to see Jersey Boys and it was absolutely amazing, absolutely recommend it , and the best thing about Norwich Theatre is that is not too big so it’s a very intermate x

User

We seen The Bodyguard yesterday afternoon part of my birthday present it was a fantastic show and a lovely theatre and staff were very friendly well done

User

Totally epic. Always wanted to see the Jersey Boys at the West End but it finished literally two days before my 40th birthday. Was so very fortunate that my wife bought tickets for the show at Norwich as part of the UK tour. Always a fan of Valli and the Four Seasons but learnt so much more. Who would have know that Joe Pesci, the famous actor, would have played a pivotal role in Valli’s life and career which culminated in a star on the Rock & Roll of Fame. Fast-paced, and keeps you gripped from the second your bottom touches the seat, and I’ll wager you it won’t remain there long as you simply cannot help but stand up and dance along to all of the well-known belters this wonderful group produced over the years. A must-see while you can; you won’t be disappointed...

User

To be able to see Acosta Danza in Norwich was wonderful. Carlos Acosta has been the best male ballet dancer for so long. Now his new company is brilliant. Good to see him performing still in the Mermaid piece. Thank you Theatre Royal for such adventurous programming!

User

This show was absolutely superb! Ballet as you have never seen before! Each set evoked a new emotion and I was totally enthralled from start to finish. I felt privileged to see the great Carlos Acosta dance, but he shared the limelight humbly with his dance group.

User

Theatre Royal is a beautiful venue. Compact, but with a great view from wherever you are seated. The seats are cosy, but with plenty of leg room. Prices are fairly standard for provincial theatre and the staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming. I will definitely come here again.

User

Saw the fantastic Jersey Boys both Friday night and Saturday matinee. I confess I’ve seen it many many times but every time I see it, it is as fresh and exciting as the first time I saw it. An absolutely cracking young cast who tell the story of Frankie Valli and his Seasons with comedy, pathos and awesome singing. If you haven’t got a ticket for next week I feel sorry for you ... but the Tour continues until March next year. Go go go!!!! if you have a ticket for next week I’m very jealous. Best show ever in my opinion 👏👏👏

User

Me my daughter and 7 yr old granddaughter went last night to see Shrek the musical , we had a amazing evening the show was amazing laughed so much , only slight criticism was the price of drinks ( yes know expect to pay more some where like that than a pub just thought £17.80 for two glasses of wine and bottle water a bit much , end of the day didn’t spoil our lovely evening and look forward too coming back in the future .

User

Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake has to be the best thing I’ve ever seen at the theatre. Completely amazing - I’m speechless

User

Loved it,really good & really funny as always, but this year seemed even better.Would recommend to all ages.

User

Excellent panto this year (Aladdin) the best I’ve seen at this theatre in all the years I’ve been going there.

User

Came to the theatre last night to watch miss Saigon amazing first half then husband was taken ill and had to go to hospital. The staff especially the manager Ric went above and beyond to take great care of us . Ric you restored my faith in human kindness x

User

Came to see Dinosaur World Live with my mum and my 5 year old daughter! The staff were lovely and happy to help and the venue was lovely! We had seats right at the very back but the view was amazing and not at all restricted! We would definitely return!

User

I took my girls to see Shrek as a birthday treat. We were having a great time but then my 3 year old discovered she has dropped her teddy blanket she's had since a baby! We were frantic as not only sentimental value but she needs it for sleep time. I cannot thank all the staff more as they were very helpful and extremely emphatic, especially the lovely older lady and gentleman that were the ushers. Alas it was handed in to the desk after the performance so all ended well. Also the performance was brilliant lol xx

User

Another great show!

On a very warm the only thing that would of made it any better was some air con. or some other way of the room feeling cooler.. that number of people and the lights etc as well as temp outside felt too hot.
