Nottingham Yacht Club Description

Nottingham Yacht Club is a small friendly boat club run and maintained by its members. We are situated at Cranfleet Lock which is on a canalised section of the River Trent between Trent Lock and Attenborough nature reserve on the Erewash Valley Trail. As we are close to the River Soar and the Erewash Canal and within easy reach of the Trent and Mersey Canal we are a convenient overnight stop-off for boats passing through. We are friendly with other boat clubs including Derby Motor Boat Club, the Soar Boating Club and the Friendship Cruising Club and regularly attend joint functions.

We have moorings for nineteen boats up to 56ft in length.

Our licensed club house is open every weekend to members. Visitors are welcome when signed in by a member. After four such visits you are required to become a member. We have two forms of membership. Social membership at £5 per year and full membership at £20 per year which entitles you to a vote at the AGM.

The club was founded in 1964 when British Waterways built a new cottage for the lockkeeper. The old lockkeepers cottage a Grade II listed building then became our club house. Modifications were made with the aid of a grant provided by the Playing Fields Association. Over the years we have continued to improve the facilities both in the club house and on our moorings. Cranfleet cut was dug in 1796 and the lock has variously been known as Old Sal’s Lock and Cramfleet Lock and is also Grade II listed.
