"If you’re nervous about the changes, remember that it’s completely natural to be worried, but that settling-in-period is only short-term; there is so much more to look forward to in terms of your new university lifestyle, so embrace it!" 🎓- Jodie Sheehan

"I didn't get involved in Nouse until the third term of my first year. I started by submitting an article in the hope it might be chosen, And it was! I can't describe how it felt, the feeling I got when I first saw my own work printed out on a physical page of a proper paper. Straight from that moment I was hooked.
I'm now Deputy Politics Editor with no intention of stopping writing anytime soon! Writing and even joining the Nouse team is such a fantastic opportunity, learn n...ew skills like InDesign or simply improve your writing. Joining your student paper or contributing is a fantastic thing to have on record if you are wanting a career in journalism or simply want to draw attention to an issue you're passionate about. But if you're still not sure, what have you got to lose if you give it a go?" - Callum, Deputy Politics Editor #WhosNouse

"When arrived at York I was immediately impressed by Nouse; but I was also intimidated by how well produced the paper was. While I hoped I would get a few articles published, I doubted that I’d be good enough to be on the team. Nevertheless, I pushed myself to run for Deputy Politics Editor and while it took two attempts to win my first role, the decision to put myself forward for the team is one of the best I have made at university.
It’s a decision that’s led to my current ...position of Politics Editor. I’m constantly learning in this role, not only about Photoshop and InDesign; but also, thanks to talented writers covering issues, my understanding of politics increases with every article I edit. From my decision to run I have also gained a brilliant set of friends.
Possibly the best thing that has come from my decision to run for Nouse is the realisation that I was always “good enough” to hold a role. No one comes into Nouse as a ready-made journalist; the truth is, everyone is “winging it” at first. If you’re enthusiastic and willing to learn, trust me you’re good enough." - Niamh, Politics Editor #WhosNouse

“I’ve been writing for Nouse for two years, spread over many sections, but my focus and passion has always been Sport. I’ve always loved writing, but before University had never really had the opportunity to do anything more. This is why I started writing for Nouse in my first year at York, a time where I wasn’t very confident in my work at all. It took me a few months to have the bottle to reach out and write a piece for Nouse, and it was the best decision I’ve made since.
...Two years on I have become one of two Sport Editors, a position I’d been wanting since my very first experiences of big Uni sporting events, Durham Varsity and Roses 2016, but one that kept passing me by. The buzz of reporting live on Uni matches despite being a total newbie to the Society was a nearly unbeatable thrill, second only to seeing my name in a real newspaper for the first time! Being responsible for Sports coverage at Nouse is a privilege I enjoy immensely, and one I wouldn’t have had had I not reached out that first time. If you have any interest in anything at all, writing about it for Nouse could be the best decision you make too.” - Patrick, Sport Editor #WhosNouse
