MEET OUR STUDENT LED TEACHING AWARD WINNERS!
Geetika Aggarwal (Maths, Physics and Electrical Engineering) is the winner of our award for Outstanding Staff Member (Engineering and Environment).
Geetika received 16 nominations, in light of her outstanding work as a Demonstrator. It was clear to the panel that she had made a huge difference to her students, through being accessible and supportive, and through her determination to help students to achieve their best. Students rep...eatedly talked about her efforts to ensure every student understood the taught material, and consistently reported that they were made to feel comfortable in asking questions and exploring work further. Coming across as polite, helpful and dedicated, the panel were hugely impressed with Geetika's nominations.
To quote from one nomination:
"Treated everyone equally, friendly and helpful in nature. Very friendly, which makes easier to ask questions. Extremely helpful, can ask questions without hesitation irrespective of question is basic or not and answers all questions with patience time and again. Also, comes 15 minutes early to help the students who are weak settling with the software and basics. Great to have such a teacher."
Congratulations Geetika, and thank you for being so supportive and impactful for your students!

MEET OUR STUDENT LED TEACHING AWARD WINNERS!
Katharine Davies (Law) is the winner of our Special Recognition Award for Inclusive Teaching.
Katharine's students repeatedly described her impact on their studies, talking about how much they enjoyed her lectures and how patient and friendly she had been as a teacher. Specific examples of inclusive practice were given, including flexibility with styles of lecture delivery, recording of lectures, and dedicating time to provide addi...tional support to students for whom English is an additional language. Overall it was clear to the panel that Katharine was a strong example of a staff member who was determined to make the adaptations that would enable her students to succeed.
In one nomination, a student wrote that:
"As someone with a specific learning disorder, I want to thank her for her inclusive teaching style and the care and consideration she puts into every lecture. I was dreading this module because I thought it sounded difficult and confusing, so I was surprised when I found myself really enjoying taking the knowledge in and thinking about it critically. Her lectures were a pleasure to attend because she used a refreshingly short number of slides and went into detail while speaking, not in writing like most other lecturers. She made cases and statutes memorable, made sure lectures were recorded and provided multitudes of additional materials on Blackboard. I was SO pleased to find out I had received my first 1st in my exam and I am truly grateful for her hard work - I couldn't have done it without her!"
Well done Katharine - we appreciate your work and clearly, your students are very grateful for your approach and your inclusivity.

Weโ€™ve seen lots of adverts recently for โ€˜essay millsโ€™ that sell students work. Submitting someone elseโ€™s work as your own is academic misconduct and there are serious penalties for any student who gets caught. Paying a proof-reader to edit your work can also be academic misconduct.
Every year we support students who get into trouble with the University after committing academic misconduct. We donโ€™t want this to be you.
If you have any questions about academic misconduct, speak to your personal tutor or email su.advice@northumbria.ac.uk.

MEET OUR STUDENT LED TEACHING AWARD WINNERS!
Johnny Walker (Social Sciences) is the winner of our special recognition award for Programme Leader of the Year.
Johnny's nominations talk about a fantastic teacher who uses varied methods, works hard to deepen students' understanding of their field, and cares deeply about them. Students talk of Johnny's sense of humour, assessment support and willingness to listen and guide anyone on the programme. Other students talk about the wa...ys in which he has helped them to develop specific skills to support their academic and career ambitions.
One student told us why they wanted Johnny to receive this award:
"As a student I would like to recognize him as an outstanding teacher who keeps up with recent developments in his field and can comfortably talk about a range of subjects related to our course that informs and educates a student. He smoothly uses classical teaching methods along with more contemporary ways of engaging the class with good use of media and discussions that challenges myself and others to think about how we approach our subject. His class is relaxed and intense at the same time that made want to nominate him for the Student Led Teaching Awards. "
Thank you Johnny, and enormously well done!
