Nugent Education

About Nugent Education

We are a school arts workshop and youth activities provider. They provide DBS checked artists to deliver a range of popular arts activities for UK kids.

Nugent Education Description

Nugent Education was set up over a decade ago by two brothers, one a teacher and a Key Skills College Coordinator, the other a poet, ESOL teacher, workshop artist and award winning writer.

Nugent Education began by providing rapping to improve literacy workshops and courses, later expanding into more urban arts such as graffiti art, DJ skills and break dancing.

In 2007 they expanded into more areas, and began providing visual, performing and creative arts workshops and courses. They also provide cultural arts activities such as African drumming and Japanese origami and Japanese manga art.

The joint backgrounds of the founders, Leighton Nugent and Ashleigh Nugent ensured that they were well placed, to create courses that embody subject (art, English, music, drama) curriculum areas. As a result, they began to increasingly get utilised by schools, looking to create more interesting curriculums.

They worked with schools, developing courses that sat alongside art, literacy, music and more. They even delivered rapping to improve literacy workshops’.

Another key component in this successful provider is that many of the artists do more than deliver workshops to schools and children’s / youth centres. They are active in their given genres. Put differently, our rappers do live gigs, our graffiti artists and DJ’s enter competitions and dancers who choreograph their own routines.

Nugent Education Ltd believes that many important issues, be it health, drugs, citizenship, gang violence and other issues, can be tackled through arts workshops. By making the given area, the subject of say a mural, or what we write raps about, these themes can be discussed with young people in a positive and fun way.

Many youth and children’s organisations, as well as schools, contact us to assist them in embodying a plethora of objectives.

The company now has artists in Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham, and London and beyond, and can provide workshops across the country (England and Wales).

Fashion and culture change, as does what’s popular with young people! Nugent Education Limited, work hard to ensure new (CRB checked) artists are delivering up to date and popular activities that children and young people enjoy.

This company delivers a plethora of activities and courses, and has a proven track record of achievement. They are booked and re-booked by a range of schools and children’s and youth organisations continually, testimony to this.

African drumming is a popular workshop activity. We have facilitated these popular drum workshops with every age group. That is to children of all ages and abilities including children with disabilities. Also, workshops are available for adults.
Artists bring 5 different types of African drum to the workshops, large and small. Most are hand crafted and carved with hardwood bases and genuine goat skins.
African drumming is popular for Black History month workshops, but our dr...umming workshops are popular for events that aim to help promote cultural diversity throughout the year.
African drumming workshops are fun, versatile and can even work well with mixed aged groups, or children with adults. With a range of African bongo's, djembe drums, and larger bougarabou drums, along with other traditional instruments, it’s educational and fun. African drumming workshops can go down well for events, as an after school or educational activity linked to music or culture. African drumming can be a great tool for team building for corporate training days, and we are regularly booked to deliver them.
With over ten years of experience, we have never known this workshop not to go well. From infant and junior school children, to senior school children, teenagers and adults, it’s a fun activity. The workshops are usually limited to 1hr and a maximum of 15 per session so if you are booking this for a class of thirty children you would need to book us for two hours. In a full day we can deliver 4 x 1hr sessions.

Black History Month
Black history month is upon us and many schools are participating in this celebratory month. Black history month can help children of all cultures understand that self-worth is not confined to one culture, belief system or skin colour.
Black history month is important whether your school is in a multi-cultural area or mono-cultural. It is often the case that mono-cultural areas have even more need to educating children on the positive and challenging aspec...ts of Black people’s experiences in the UK.
It used to be that the focus was often on internationally renowned black artists such as Bob Marley or Jay Z and so on. It is now the case that many schools choose to focus on more local black British subjects and not just to confined to music or sports.
A great way to learn about these important historical (and living) black achievers is through the medium of rapping and beat boxing. Rapping itself stems from the African oral traditional of story telling over beats and Jamaican toasting, so the genre fits.
Other schools may choose to do something more traditional for Black History Month, such as African drumming or African mask making and Poetry, any of which we can deliver!
If a school wishes to focus on other cultures we provide interesting activities such as Japanese origami and Chinese dance.
Whatever you need for ‘Black History Month’ Nugent Education Ltd can help.
