Nus Black Students' Campaign Description

We are the largest movement of our kind in Europe that seeks to unite Black students to work to challenge racism within education and wider society. Our Campaign has a proud history of fighting to increase Black representation throughout the student movement as we believe that is one of the best ways to fight racism. Black unity is absolutely necessary if we are to overcome such racism and under-representation - we are strongest when we are united.

Our contribution to the anti-racist struggle has seen us lead campaigns alongside the family of Stephen Lawrence, challenging institutional racism in the police, mobilising communities to vote against the fascist British National Party and leading the peaceful movement against the far-right English Defence League. Our Campaign has consistently fought every manifestation of Islamophobia and every form of racism.

The Campaign has lead the fight for NUS to challenge the government's devastating attacks on students. Every cut is amplified on Black communities as a majority of us live in the most deprived parts of the UK with unemployment for young Black people reaching 50% in some areas. Our Campaign has played a leading role in fighting for free education and for the re-instatement of the Education Maintenance Allowance. It is our Campaign that fought for and won the national demonstration to defend education.

Whether it's campaigning for justice for Palestine, against Western intervention in Africa, the Middle-East or showing solidarity with progressive movement across Latin America and the Caribbean - the Black Students' Campaign is proudly internationalist, supporting peace and justice across the world.
