We undertake varied retail projects, each as enjoyable as the next. In the market town of Machynlleth, the existing Co-op supermarket was well used and nearing the end of its design life. To improve customer experience whilst using the facilities, planning permission was sought and granted to extend both the back of the store and car park.
As the building sits within an attractive conservation area, careful consultations with the Local Authority and the Client were carried out and led to the design of the extension matching the appearance of buildings previously located on site. A updated entrance to the front along with new signage and windows help to smarten up the facade.

We are looking for an ambitious and experienced Project Architect to work on residential / conservation and commercial projects. Reporting to one of the Directors, and working in a friendly and lively office, the candidate will help with the production of fee bids. They will form part of the team that creates the initial briefing and takes ownership for the production of strategies and feasibility studies along with preparing concept design sketches.
Requirem...ents: • Minimum 5-7 Years UK work experience, ideally within the residential/ conservation/ commercial sector • Experience in working with existing buildings in city centers & rural locations • Design focused • Strong hand drawing skills • Proficiency in AutoCAD/ REVIT • Full UK driving license • Strong portfolio • Strong communication and people skills
Remuneration: • Salary TBC • CPD training • Contributory pension scheme (matching contribution up to 3%) • 20 days + stat holidays (rising to 25 days during service) • Childcare voucher scheme • Cycle to work scheme • Staff social events

Our clients approached us to design an initial phase for refurbishing an unused area within their surgery. Our brief was to extend the Prep Area, form a new Operating Theatre along with a Recovery Ward. This was completed and our clients have now decided to carry on re-configuring the rest of the building with a number of extensive renovations to ground and first floor levels.

One of our long standing clients approached us to design a scheme for the conversion of series of redundant barns into four new dwellings for their rental portfolio. An additional new-build, detached dwelling was also added as part of the scheme after significant efforts to demonstrate its merit.

NWD were commissioned to extend an existing office space onto a tranquil meadow within a former quarry, surrounded by established trees. The two buildings are linked together by a lightweight glazed structure.

Our second nomination for the LABC North West Building Excellence Awards for 2019 is the beautiful Abbey Gate College Infant and Junior School in Aldford. Set within a conservation area with surrounding buildings dating from the 1870's to the 1890's, we created a new, standalone block with ancillary spaces to meet the schools requirements. #abbeygatecollege #cheshire #labcawards2019 #aldfordvillage #school

As it's almost the end of the month, we would like to introduce you to a new feature - 'Get to know NWD'. Our first feature is on Mike T who has been with us for almost 5 years now.

One of our most rewarding schemes was a extra-care residential scheme in Northwich for Wulvern Housing. The site sits on the banks on the River Weaver, adjoins the towpath and contains 58 lifetime homes along with public lounges, a bistro and a beautiful sun terrace with views over the river. The project was shortlisted for the 2018 LABC North West Building Excellence Awards.

Originally a Wheel Machine Shop, Isambard House was one of the first railway buildings constructed in Swindon by Isambard Kingdom Brunel in 1841 - 1842. The building was converted to open plan offices over three floors in 2000. Our brief was to create a new Head Office for one of our long standing clients to incorporate their company vision. Style, use and appearance was all updated to create a vibrant workplace.

We are proud to present some before and after pictures of an elegant residential extension in Tattenhall. The property has a colorful history and was originally used as an American Army Base during the Second World War. NWD Architects were appointed to create a single story, orangery style extension to the rear to provide a light, open-plan living and kitchen area with new external terraces
