Ms Heydon would like to say a huge thank you to Rick Astley and his wife Lene for making Paul’s dreams come true. After Paul won Oakfield’s Got Talent, Ms Heydon got in touch with Rick Astley and asked for his help. Rick sent Paul a video message, four tickets for Rick Astley’s concert at Haydock Park on Saturday and invited Paul backstage to meet him. Paul had an amazing day thanks to Rick and Lene.

One final message, please remind learners about keeping safe over the holiday. Especially with our recent focus on digital safety, water safety and remaining safe in the sun. We hope everyone has a restful break and look forward to our return in September.

Annual End of Year Show. Staff took part in the annual end of year show along with the winners from Oakfield’s Got Talent. This year we even had a special message from Rick Astley congratulating Paul on winning and sending him tickets to his show tomorrow at Haydock. What a high to end the year on.

John Muir Discover Award
Learners from Y8 were presented with their John Muir certificates today, following their residential to Low Bank Ground in November and work done within science over the year. Learners had to Discover, Explore and Conserve a wild place. Well done to all involved.

Learners have enjoyed using sculptures to explore different parts of the the school curriculum.

9-2 took part in their annual veg growing competition. They all took bean seedlings home to grow after observing their germination in the lab. Thanks to their families and carers for carrying on the hard work! it was very close and ended up in a tie between Natalie and Mary! Well done to both.

On Tuesday 16th July we held our annual offsite Sports day at Leigh Sports Village. During the day, learners competed in five carousel sports including Sprints, Slalom, Long Jump, Javelin and Target Throw. Learners were exceptional and showed they were all true sporting champions by never giving up, putting every effort into each event and really testing each other to improve on previous performances. We would like to thank Mr Neacy and Mr Jameson for helping to organise a smooth and inspiring day for all. We would also like to thank Chris Hankinson who currently plays for Wigan Warriors who came in especially to present medals and awards to learners.

Last Friday an artist came into Y9 as they experimented with pigment painting, inspired by Barbara Nicholls.

On the 14th July a family relative ran the Iron Man to raise funds for our school and college in the memory of learner Chloe Linton. The target of £500 was set and broken as a huge £664 was raised. Thanks to everyone who supported this cause, especially Craig Smith. Well done from all of us at Oakfield.

Tomorrow we have our annual Sports Day, and with England being world cup cricket champions, this weeks Sign of the Week is 'Cricket'.

Well done to all the Mighty Hikers on completing their 26 mile hike. A great day for all involved. The group completed the Hike in a combined time of 12 hours (never leave a man behind). Well done to them all. We couldn't be prouder.

They're off...! Good luck to eight members of staff who are taking part in the Lake District Mighty Hike challenge today.

Yesterday 10-2 were invited to use the mini golf by Friends of Haigh Country Park as the staff there were so impressed by the learner’s excellent manners the week before. They acted as models for photographs of the facilities, and in return were offered free use of the course! They had a keenly fought mini golf competition which was admittedly easily won by Brooke. All The rest of us need to up our game for next year!

On Wednesday morning College Health and Social Care invited Ash Tree House residents and staff to their Tea Party. Everyone had a lovely time getting to know one another.

A huge well done to one of our learners Chloe, who competed in her first Special Olympics Equine competition yesterday. Chloe did amazingly well, we are all so proud of her; Chloe won Gold in Dressage and Gold in Equitation in her group. Chloe was as cool and calm as ever, even when the dressage test she had been learning for months was then changed on the day to a whole new test Chloe had never done before but despite all this Chloe held it together and followed the instruction very well to secure her a gold medal. What an achievement!

Last week Y6 learners from across different schools, came together for their transition days.
The new learners really got stuck in with the activities that encouraged team building, bonding and discussions with both new staff and new learners. Some of the activities included; Archery, Caving, Bushcrafts, Orienteering, and a taster of the different lessons and options for their Oakfield journey next year.
The learners really enjoyed the two days, and we had some great comments from staff and parents about how much they learned and how excited they are to start in September. We can't wait to welcome them into our school.
