Monday is here so to start the week off well before we all start slouching come this afternoon, here are 5 tips to help with your posture if you spend a lot of time at a desk.
1. Take regular breaks away from the desk as this will reset your posture from that fixed position that you may well end up in for hours at a time without realising.
2. Have your computer screen at roughly eye level as this will stop excessive neck flexion and reduce the strain on your neck and muscles.... (If your screen height isn’t adjustable, stack some books under it!).
3. Have your keyboard close to you to avoid reaching from a distance and causing your shoulders to sit forward. Many of us are guilty of having paper in front of us with the keyboard behind it so try and move it all around as it will help massively with your posture.
4. Keep your feet flat on the floor as this will help to keep your pelvis balanced.
5. Make sure your screen isn’t too far away so you avoid the ‘chin poke’ position which results in a neck muscle imbalance. It is advised the screen should be at least 51cm away however accurate measurements may differ depending on screen size and overall desk set up so ergonomic assessments specific for you can usually be carried out.
Try and remember these as much as possible throughout the week to avoid developing a posture like this.
