A play by Arthur Miller Directed by David Thacker
‘We are in this world and you’re going to have to find some way to love it!’ Leroy Hamilton
... Two men visit their wives in a psychiatric hospital. Both women struggle with depression and addiction to prescription drugs.
Once ‘the handsomest pair in town’, Patty and her carpenter husband, Leroy, now struggle to make ends meet whilst trying to create a home for their seven children.
John Frick, a wealthy businessman, can’t understand why Karen, ‘a women who has everything she could possibly want’, has inexplicably ‘lost all her optimism’.
In a world where so many people experience mental health concerns, Arthur Miller’s funny, compassionate and profoundly moving play gives hope to us all.

Wonderful. Words can't describe the amazing dementia friendly show you did today. I brought my 5yr old to see A Christmas Carol before Christmas and it was incredible but today's performance and every single member of staffs attitude and friendliness from the moment we walked through the door was amazing. A afternoon of joy for my grandma after a year of poor health and the environment you created was the kind of thing money can't buy. Thank you to the Octagon and every person involved

What a stunning valedictory production to the old theatre! Love, life, death and a bike ride to Blackpool.... 'The Big Corner' casts its net wide, projecting the Octagon itself as Boltons own Big Corner. The cast are excellent, working hard but clearly loving being part of a hostoric production. Here's to another 50 years of stories and beyond in the reimagined Octagon Theatre from autumn next year.

User

We were in the audience tonight for a performance of “All I see is You”. It was awesome! The standing ovation at the end was so well deserved. It was a moving, superbly acted and genuinely life-enhancing piece of theatre. I sincerely hope this production gets the opportunity to be seen by a wider audience. It will I am sure be nominated for a raft of awards for both the actors featured and the director.

User

We had never been to the Octagon Theatre Bolton before and after seeing the Amazing performance of Charles Dickens “A Christmas Carol" we wonder why.

The venue is in the round and if you are sat in Row D you are right in the action.

This production of A Christmas Carol is fantastic, the cast act, have multiple roles, sing and play musical instruments.

Martina Isibor who was Belle / Mrs Kratchit and Kathleen stood out in a great cast because she combined Victorian Dress with playing an Electric Guitar.

It is on until 13/01/2018 if you can get there GO.

User

Watched the play Winter Hill was very good given it 5 stars .....but decided to have pre theatre dining but that was not good..... we ordered Gammon but it was a luke warm piece of ham which was very disappointing ... then waited well over half an hour for our dessert. Two meals two drinks two bottles water was over £44 ! Will go to other events but will not have food there again .

User

Took our Haulgh ESOL ladies to see A Christmas Carol today and it was a brilliantly funny and entertaining show.

We talked about the story last week so they would know what was happening and they had a wonderful time! So much so, one of them is now muttering “Bah Humbug!” to everything

Thank you x

The Threepenny Opera - a slice of life

This is no ordinary musical! It is a dark, brutal yet completely engaging portrayal of society at its basest level. From the start, Macheath (the brilliant David Birrell) gives us his rendition of Mack the Knife, laying himself open as a misogynistic, murdering rapist who defies us to empathise with him. No Sinatra false glamour here, yet he succeeds through pure charisma. Prominent among a powerful cast is Anna Wheatley’s character, Polly Peachum. She commands the stage as she did in Martha, Josie and the Chinese Elvis – a star in the making. David Thacker’s wonderful direction and inspired casting leave no weaknesses in the theatrical experience. Above all, the production is faithful to Brecht’s original portrayal of how some people will always overcome an impoverished start in life by fair means or foul. This is not The Godfather – this is real life.

User

The Tenant of Wildfell Hall was really good. The first act introduced the Tenant and the local family who enjoyed entertaining. The local vicar liked the home brewed beer.

The second act re- enacted the journal written by the Tenant.

There were some amusing bits and some drop dead looks given during the performance.

All the actors were good. Adam Crompton was the only child in the production and held his own. The dog was well behaved as well.

User

The Big Corner was superb. Great acting by all five actors who played several parts (the nuns were hilarious). Dan Parr was amazing. They really involved the audience, we laughed and cried. It was intimate, moving, hilariously funny - theatre at its best.

User

Summer holiday .partner and I came to see this tonight t absolutely brill from beginning to end all talented actors and musicians

User

Summer Holiday is nothing short of amazing!! A definite must see!!! Loved it

User

Saw East is East tonight and it was fabulous. Great script with super actors/actresses. Tears rolling down my face with laughter in some parts. Thoroughly enjoyed it

User

Our first visit to the theatre in December to watch A Christmas Carol. Loved every second of the production. You feel really involved in the show as the stage is in the middle of the floor. Excellent actors and stage/props. Can't wait to go again. Massive well done to all involved. 😊🎭🎟

User

Just got back from watching summer holiday....it was AMAZING. what a group of talented actors and musicians.

User

I first went to Bolton’s Octagon Theatre 50 years ago when it first opened in 1967. I went again tonight to watch Charles Dickens “A Christmas Carol” and it was simply amazing, spell binding.

The cast are incredible actors so if you only see one production this year, make it this one. Full of the magic of Christmas.

User

Fantastic show, such great versatile performers, they could sing, play instruments and the children were wonderful. Brought humour into the play which did not detract from the story. Can recommend this to anyone over 7.

User

Went to watch East Is East at the

Octagon Theatre yesterday is was fantastic very funny in parts.

I’ve seen the film and this adaptation was a very good one.

However the seats ware very uncomfortable could do with new seats with more legroom
