The 71st Annual Festival of School Lodges was held at Taunton School, Taunton on 1st September 2018. It was hosted by Taunton School Lodge No. 8215. For Taunton Lodge this was the first time they had hosted the event and celebrating its Golden Jubilee and to have that twinned with the Annual Federation of School Lodges was a particular honour. After registration and a welcome tea/coffee for those having travelled many miles It began with a short service in the School Chapel. ...This included Organ Voluntaries by David Bridges GRSM (Chapel organist and choirmaster) Hymns, two readings by VWBro. Dr.Nigel Bramley-Harworth PGSwdB, DeptPGM(East Lancs) and President of the Federation of School Lodges and W.Bro. Michael H.N. Button PPrJGW,SLGR. A paper on Taunton School WW1 – “Least we forget” by RWBro. David Jenkins PastPGM, Somerset and Worshipful Master of Taunton School Lodge No.8215. An Address, a prayer of Intercession and a Blessing by The Revd. Jeremy Hellier PPrGChap. After the Service there was a Lodge meeting held by Dispensation. As part of the labour of the lodge The President of the Federation of School Lodges was received accompanied by Officers, Patrons, Vice-Patrons and Committee of the Federation. After which the lodge received The Right Worshipful Brother Sir David Hugh Wooton, Assistant Grand Master, accompanied by the RWBro. Stuart Hadler PGM Somerset, Grand Officers and other distinguished Brethren. The secretary then called a Roll of Lodges and Chapters of the Federation. A paper was then given by VWBro. Dr. Roger Jago PGSwdB,PM, entitled “The History of Grand Lodge since 1717”. While the lodge meeting took place the wives and partners were treated to a presentation by Frances Benton entitled “A Passion for Pearls”. The meeting and presentation were followed by a gala lunch at the school followed by Toasts and a few short speeches. The Brethren with their wives and partners were all from School Lodges across the whole country and all our Provinces. Included in this was the representative for the Federation of School Lodges for The Old Plymothian & Mannameadian Lodge No.6279, W.Bro Brendan Brookshaw along with 5 other members of the same Lodge to support the whole event and the Federation. Details of the 72nd Federation of School Lodges to be held in 2019 will be announced in due course. The Federation was launched in 1949 and has pursued a successful course, it now numbers 173 Lodges & Chapters (including three Mark Lodges) from all over the country. These include Lodges associated with colleges and universities.
