We're excited for the official founding of MyData as a global organisation on 11 October! "The core idea is that we, you and I, should have an easy way to see where data about us goes, specify who can use it, and alter these decisions over time."

We are at the #IODC18 Opendatacon conference this week to help answer the hard questions for the future of #opendata. Our hope: being constructively critical and don’t fear to talk about what does not work.
For us at Open Knowledge International, ‘open’ is a key value of the societies that we strive for, while being balanced appropriately with concerns around #privacy and #security.

Empowering Portugal’s bombeiros with #opendata: in Portugal, a free, open source project is making official fire data more accessible to firefighters, emergency workers, journalists, and the public. Fogos.pt has gained significant traction, receiving as many as a million views a day and half a million unique users a month. The project was inspired by a 2018 #OpenDataDay event by Mapbox - Marena Brinkhurst caught up with the creator, João Pina, to learn more: http://bit.ly/2OMdxJC
