Open Minds Counselling Service Description

We are a counselling service based in Doncaster, South Yorkshire.

We are open to anyone over 8 and wherever you are from, whatever your needs, including people with issues around anxiety, depression, relationships, sexuality, abuse, addiction, bereavement and loss

COUNSELLING
One to one for children aged 8 or over, and adults.
On any issue and for as long as counselling is needed.

TO MAKE A REFERRAL: phone 07765 224564 and speak to Helen, Avis or Jennie.

We can usually fit adults with a counselling appointment within 2 weeks but children, especially those under 13, may take up to 6 months for an appointment, for which we are very sorry but unfortunately we have fewer counsellor able to work with children.

We have male and female counsellors of varying ages and ethnicities and have ground floor and upstairs rooms available. Appointments can be made in or out of school and work time, subject to the counsellor's availability.

COST: we ask for a contribution towards counselling, depending on what you can afford, whether that is £1, £5 or £25. Every client who contribites provides an invaluable boost to our ability to provide the best quality continuing counselling service we can. Thank you.

TRAINING
to schools, organisations and individuals from the age of 8 upwards on a variety of subjects, including:

Managing Anger
Relaxing
Self-Esteem
Coping Mechanisms
Coping with separation and divorce (for children)
Communicating with Children and Young People
Listening Skills
Coping with Bereavement

and many more (please ask for a copy of our training portfolio)

Come along to Sir Nigel Gresley Square, Waterdale from 1pm on Saturday 18th August and see us at our colourful stalls between the adult and children's libraries.
We will be raising money for Open Minds through hand-crafted pretties like these badges, and mugs, notepads and vases.
In fact special thanks go to the amazing Healing Our Way CIC Crafts who have already raised over £100 for Open Minds through the beautiful hand made mugs and notepads they have made. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜 thank y...ou! You can order personalized items from their page.
Every penny we raise goes to support our work with vulnerable adults and children, and the continuing adventures of our art and nurture group.
If we raise enough money we will be able to start a second art and nurture therapy group.
Open Minds are by our nature all inclusive, and our counselling can help young people and adults find their way, and their rainbow, when all around them is confusion and darkness.
You can donate to open minds by texting OPEN09 £3 or £5 or £10 to 70070.
You can refer yourself for counselling by phoning or texting us on 07765244564 or emailing openminds@counsellingdoncaster.com

The rainbow means many things to each of us.
To some it is pretty, fun and bright.
To some who have experienced mental illness and trauma it represents the hope that colour still exists when all feels grey, and the possibility that the sun continues even when all they feel is rain. As the saying goes, when it rains look for rainbows, when it's dark look for stars.
... To some who are neuro-atypical the rainbow represents the spectrum of neurological diversity, and empowers them to embrace and celebrate these differences as being part of the variety of humanity, reinforcing that being autistic or adhd or dyslexic or dyspraxic or neurologically different in any way, does not mean being less.
And to some whose gender, romantic or sexual orientation are 'atypical' and for whom that difference may have been a source of internal conflict, or prejudice, or violence, the rainbow is a way of saying "who I am and who and how I love is real, is right, is beautiful, and I belong in the world".

You don't have to be LGBTIQ to come along to Pride on Saturday 18th August, all allies are welcome.
Come along and celebrate with us that all who believe in humanity and hope and love belong together.

Thank you beyond words to these amazing people who raised £380 for Open Minds through a sponsored walk as part of their National Civilian Service - your efforts are so greatly appreciated and will make an incredible difference to our clients.
NCS - National Citizen Service has enabled these wonderful teenagers to flourish and bond and come into their own.
And extra super especial thank you to Amber for nominating Open Minds as the charity for the sponsored walk ❤🧡💛💚💙💜

The wonderful Pride committee know how to put on a party!
Here's the line up of music and performances on both stages at Pride on Saturday 18th August.
During the day the event is incredibly family friendly and you can see several generations coming to join the fun together.
... Last year we were blessed to see Doncaster families supporting one another; gangsta grannies with their girlfriends and grown up kids and grandchildren, grandparents and parents supporting their LGBTI teenage and young adult kids and grandkids, and everywhere people just being lovely and having a good time. #loveislove #IloveDN

Pride 2017; as always a wonderful day out for all the family.
Pride 2018 will again be wonderful, family friendly and a place to celebrate loving and being loved - and being together.
Open Minds will be face-painting in the yurt again thanks to the Cosmic Pixies, we will be selling hand made Pride mugs thanks to Healing Our Way CIC Crafts, and selling hand made rainbow vases, candle holders and trinket holders.
... We hope to celebrate our 10th anniversary of opening our town centre premises in 2008 in style; with rainbows which represent the spectrum of gender, romantic and sexual orientation and expression.
Money we raise is used to provide therapy to children, young people and adults. #loveislove #IloveDN
We hope you will join us on Saturday 18th August at Sir Nigel Gresley Square, Waterdale from 1pm til late.

This organisation is honestly the best thing i have ever come across. Today I left my placement there due to other commitments but if I could have I would have stayed there forever. It's the most laid back and relaxing environment and I would recommend any body who seeks counselling. They make you feel at ease and help you in anyway possible. I was sad to leave but I know that I would be welcomed back with open arms at any moment. It really is a fantastic place and it deserves so much more than just 5 stars on Facebook. Thank you all so much for an enjoyable 5/6 months - you guys truly are awesome!!
