About Opennorwich

OPEN is a charity located in the heart of Norwich offering activities for young people, thanks to the live music, conference, events & training facilities.

Opennorwich Description

The OPEN Youth Trust (OPEN) is a charity based in the heart of Norwich which aims to raise the aspirations of young people by providing activities that help to build confidence and self-esteem, develop life skills and increase employment prospects.

Established in 2005, OPEN provides diverse and innovative ways to engage young people living in Norfolk through a variety of activities including dance, drama, music and climbing. The way in which we work with young people, including those from disadvantaged background, is to make a positive difference to their lives.

The charity, located in a Grade II listed building, formerly the regional headquarters of Barclays Bank is now home to a multi-purpose venue. The venue has a wealth of state-of-the-art facilities, including a drop-in social hub for young people, conference /training rooms, a stand-alone nightclub, cafe, dance studio, climbing wall and gym.

Yesterday we had a Multisports Party for our 5 year old son, Teddy. I cannot speak highly enough of the venue, staff and communication that we received for this event. Karl, Dan and the rest of the team were outstanding, nothing was too much trouble and they were so professional and approachable. All the children thoroughly enjoyed the well planned and fun workshop and the added bonus of the photographer was such a great idea for parents who want to enjoy the party rather than see it from behind their camera phone (as I would normally!). The food was incredible and presented beautifully in individual pizza boxes. Without a doubt we will be back later in the year for our eldest as the range of workshops offered is simple amazing, and so reasonably priced. In fact we loved it so much, I have already booked the Easter Workshops for both my boys! Thank you Open! What an amazing resource for young people!

We often come to the toddler sessions and always have such a lovely time! Becky is so enthusiastic and involved. Thank you so much

User

Today we had a ninth Birthday Climbing party For our Daughter Seren. I can’t recommend this place enough, the staff/volunteers in all areas were superb, friendly and enthusiastic giving Seren a party I’m sure she will never forget! Food was brilliant and catered for our Food Allergies with no problems.

Party’s aside it’s a brilliant place to pop in to the brilliant cafe ,Climbing or for the kids to relax or let off steam, great value for money.

We can’t wait to see you all again!

User

This is an excellent place to eat and while away some Nanny babysitting time! Pepper pig on a big screen a bonus for my Grandson.

User

Probably one of the very best venues in Norwich!!!! Would recommend it to absolutely anyone 😃🎉💕 xx

User

My son went to both the Pokemon Party and the May the force be with you activity days during last half term and this one. He had an amazing time and would recomend the activity days at Open to anyone. He found the staff very helpful and had lots of fun with them!

User

My children attended a number of workshops over the summer holidays and they really enjoyed them. Thank you to be wonderful staff at Open for running these fun sessions and making my children feel welcome. We will definitely book again. Highly recommended to other parents who are considering booking.

Last Saturday I was invited to a great night of local independent music in this venue in Bank Plain. There was food at a reasonable price & a bar selling draft lager & bottled beer & other drinks. The live music was played by Norfolk bands in two locations, one a small room where mostly rock music was played the other was the main stage where I saw Lucy Grubb Trio, Sam Coe & the Long Shadows, Jake Morrell & his band & Morganway. A great place to watch the music, meet the musicians & other fans.

User

Great place great staff my daughter had a fab birthday there ! Thanks open norwich

User

Great location...loads of parking nearby...places to eat/drink nearby too. Inside the building itself, acoustics are good, sound quality excellent, sight lines good. Waited almost 15 mins to get served at the bar, but hey, the staff were really friendly and treated us to free dancing! They seemed to love Seth Lakeman as much as we did. Recommended.

User

Great food, great coffee, great staff and great prices! Go there! :-D

User

Fantastic space! Staff are great! We came for a climbing wall taster session and stuck around after for ages!

User

Came for the first time last night to see ward thomas

A great atmosphere and acoustics in this place are amazing

User

Amazing venue, great acoustics, friendly patient staff doing brilliant job of serving at bar.

Seth Lakeman and Wildwood Kin were so good that words fail me on how to describe the evening. Just Wow !!!

User

7 of us attended a climbing session on Saturday with Dan and James. We have to say how pleased we were and what a great time we all had. The support we had and expertise shared was perfect and we had lots of giggles too. For those who were nervous, the staff handled it very well, with one member of our group in particular being very successful with the support of Dan and a fascinating, well placed fire extinguisher! 😂 The other facilities on site were brilliant and the team seem to work well together. Would totally recommend this place. Many thanks.

User

Went to the Open for the first time to watch Ward Thomas. Conert was excellent but was marred by the sound of crashing bottles into bottle skips from bar area. Not fair to the artists nor the audience. The support act had to put up with not just smashing bottles but very loud chatter from the bar area too. Very unfair to them.

User

Came here to watch Billy Bragg and Joe Henry on 22/1/17.

The venue was quite grand, the acoustics were good.

I bought 2 bottles of water.... £3, that's a fair price for a gig venue.

The only down side was the bar being at the back of the auditorium. The bar staff were lobbing empty bottles into bins behind the bar so the performance war slightly marred by chinking, banging and clattering. There was also lots of loud talking from this area. I was in the 4th row from the stage and people were turning round in front of me to see what the noise was, I guess it wasn't good for those toward the back.

User

Common People event on Sat night was OK. Couldn't get anywhere near the bar as so busy and amount of customers waiting to be served. Very poor bar set up. Told by staff to visit other bar but that was closed. Shame.

User

I went to see Ben Haenow who was fabulous, he was 5*. But facilities for disabled were appalling. Eventually I was given a seat against the back wall, with no view of the stage whatsoever. People kept walking past tripping over me & the other disabled people seated there as they couldn't see us in the dark. At one point I was nearly knocked off my seat by two guys wanting to get out to the bar, I would have been knocked to the ground if my sister hadn't grabbed me by the arm. A fabulous evening of great music marred by poor disabled facilities.
