Order Of St Beryl - Leaping Beryllians Grammar Description

The Order of St Beryl was founded in Norwich in 1469. It is unique in being a Trappist, Leaping order. Situated amongst hostile fenlands populated by poisonous snakes and forbidden by oath to take any life, human or animal, the Sisters preserved their lives by learning - with the inspiration of God, speaking through Beryl, daughter of the famed dancer, St Vitus - to leap over the snakes. Should a snake appear, up the nuns would go. Thus, the Leaping Nuns of Norwich were founded.

The successful grammar school, with whom we share a site, is amongst the top 165 grammars in the UK.
