Coming up at the National Maritime Museum, the ORIGINS Offshoots film season starts with TKARONTO. Shane Belcourt’s multi-award winning film was our first-night film at the inaugural ORIGINS back in 2009, and the closing night film at the 2007 imagiNATIVEFestival, as well as winning the Best Director Award at the Dreamspeaker Festival. https://www.rmg.co.uk/…/indigenous-cult ures-film-season-tka…

Border Crossings' ORIGINS Festival teams up with our friends at OZ Film Festival for a special advance screening of indigenous director Warwick Thornton's staggering new film SWEET COUNTRY. Winner of the Venice Special Jury Prize and the Platform Prize at Toronto, SWEET COUNTRY is an indigenous Australian Western; a worthy successor to Thornton's remarkable debut, SAMSON AND DELILAH, shown in ORIGINS 2011.
Set in the wild frontier of 1920s Northern Territory, where men are wild and hungry to establish themselves as masters of the harsh environment, the story centres on an older aboriginal man who shoots a white man in self-defence and the subsequent hunt for him by the men that rule the area.
Our very own Michael Walling will introduce the film, and there are complimentary drinks and a shorts programme too!
