Oscar Derby Description

Osmaston Community Association of Residents (OSCAR) is a resident led association established to tackle the social and physical regeneration of their community.

It exists to serve the needs of everyone in the community of Osmaston Derby.
In January 2011, a group of Osmaston residents and local businesses formed a working group to look at how Osmaston could be improved as there were concerns about the vacant former Rolls Royce site at Nightingale Road.

Derby City Council had already commissioned a masterplan to look at regeneration of the area but some of the proposals were of concern to residents.

Derby Homes offered support to help the formation of an association to give power to the residents. They seconded a Community Initiative Officer to support the work and in April 2011, OSCAR was formally constituted.

Derby Homes offered the use of the old housing office at Addison Road for use as a meeting place for OSCAR, and continues to fund this on OSCAR’s behalf. The use of these offices was designed as a ‘trial’ to establish if there was a need by the community for such a centre. The long term plan was to consider the use of the Grade 2 listed Marble Hall premises on the vacant Rolls Royce site.
