16 and 16a, Market Street A Grade II Listed Building in Lichfield, Staffordshire
... Oxfam Lichfield’s building has an interesting history. Listing on 5th February 1952, the building is grade: II And was formerly the Castle Inn before it was a shop.
The layout is of a Shop and office. Late 16th century with a late 20th century shop front. The front of the shop has Timber-frame with some brick. 3 storeys; 2-window range. Jettied upper floors and 2 gables. Moulded bressumers, that to 1st floor on joist ends, then to 2nd floor on end corbel heads. Late 20th century timber shop front on brick plinth with entry to right. 1st floor has 1:3:1-light canted orioles on shaped brackets with leaded glazing and iron opening casements; 2nd floor has 3-light windows with wooden-ovolo-mullioned windows with leaded glazing. Square framing has herring-bone bracing to 1st floor, decorative bracing to 2nd floor. Rear has plainer framing, gabled wing with smaller gabled wing to left. INTERIOR: altered ground floor.
