Kangaroo playgroup is a weekly group set up for parents of babies of children of all ages who are interested in, or practising, natural and attachment parenting. It's held at a wonderful indoor outdoor venue - Barracks Lane Community Garden - where the children interact with each other and natural "toys" such as sticks and leaves. Attachment, natural, or instinctive parenting is not a rigid set of rules to be followed, but a philosophy of child-rearing which is founded on a secure loving relationship between a parent and child. Attached Parents use their instincts to guide them in their care of their children. In the main this means following the child's cues in order to meet his /her needs. Attachment Parenting (AP) sometimes looks to the example of tribal societies and considers how a human baby's evolutionary needs may be out of sync with the expectations of contemporary culture.

This discussion group covers many areas of parenting. Topics include:

Natural birth
Home birth
Breastfeeding on demand
Full term breastfeeding
Babywearing
Co-sleeping
Baby-led weaning
Elimination communication / Nappy Free
Cloth nappies
Alternatives to controlled crying /sleep training
Gentle discipline / unconditional parenting

Other areas of discussion are vaccinations, childcare, schools, home education, clothes, food, toys, massage, signing, ethical living, mindfulness etc etc.

A final note: Please treat each other with the same respect that you show to your child!

Hi all! I wanted to let you know about this little known nursery in East Oxford. My daughter, just 4, has been attending since January this year and loves it immensely. What I love most is that the staff are really very gentle, caring, kind, attentive and nurturing with the children and definitely follow attachment principles, if not explicitly. Parents are encouraged to get involved with parent help and forest school rotas. Differnt sensory play areas are set up each day fo...r the children to pick and choose with further more permanent activities also. There's a great outdoor space where children are encouraged to learn balance bike and to scoot with a further garden with a sand pit, playhouse, a willow den, play equipment and allotment where the children plant and harvest vegetables.
The hours are 9:00 - 12:00 Monday, Thursday and Friday and 9:00 - 15:00 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays with forest school after lunch on Tuesdays.
I have just been informed that because of their low numbers this year they may have to close so if you are considering a nursery experience for your little one I really encourage you to give this lovely little nursery a try before it's too late. <3

Sadly the Wednesday Kangaroo meet-up at Barracks Lane will not resume this September, but the ‘attachment’ community is going strong in Oxford. Please see the yahoo group and Facebook links to get in touch.

From Amber
Thanks for buying my book! If you've read it and enjoyed it - can I ask you to do me a favour and write me a review on Amazon?
... Or... if you didn't get round to it yet, pop down to your local bookshop and grab a copy - or order it online through Amazon or other online bookseller. I've also got a real-life opportunity for you to get stuck into the potty, at my workshop next week in Oxford, 11-12, Wednesday 24th June.
Usual time and place:
As always, we meet at Barrack Lane Community Garden, Just off the Cowley Road, behind Kenilworth Avenue. We are hosted by Kangaroo Playgroup, an outdoor attachment parenting social group. Meet at 11am, and bring potties, nappies, etc whatever you need for a practical session. You are welcome to bring older siblings and a picnic lunch. The garden is a great venue for play and socialising.
The workshops themselves are totally free (though I will ask you to make a £2 donation to Kangaroo playgroup, who hosts us) Please drop me an email if you'd like to attend.
