User

Went to see Birdsong and it was brilliant. I was engrossed the whole time. The Playhouse as ever was very comfortable and good views

User

Went to see "The Play that Goes Wrong" last night - laughed from start to finish. A great show and a very talented cast. Would highly recommend this production - well done to all involved.

User

We visited yesterday from Poole to see "Abigails Party" and were very impressed with the welcome and venue. Everyone from Matt and team on the bar, the ushers and especially the lovely lady on reception who looked after my shopping while we enjoyed the show, (which was excellent), made us feel very welcome and special . We will be back soon.

User

We came to Oxford from Nottingham to see Wipers News. The authors, director, production staff and actors are congratulated on their contribution to a moving and humorous account of the experiences associated with Wiper News. The play deserves a much wider audience. There are many aficiandos who would enjoy it.

The Playhouse seating and facilities are well-designed but the acoustics need attention. Perhaps a row of microphones at the front of the stage and well-placed speakers would be sufficient?

User

Watched “The play that goes wrong” yesterday. What an incredibly funny play,

great acting and impeccable comedy timing and how no one gets injured is beyond me! As to the playhouse itself, it is a beautiful venue, very clean and not too big. We had seats on the back row in the circle, initially I was concerned that the view would be awful but it was absolutely fine and could see the stage clearly. Will definitely attend the playhouse again & won’t worry where the seats are!

User

Very much enjoyed"The Kite Runner" with my daughter last night. The revamped playhouse is colourful and comfortable seats. Even half way back in the circle it was still very easy to see and hear easily. Excellent production of a very moving story. My only criticism would be of the lady behind me who insisted on getting a sweet, or similar, out if a very noisey bag every few minutes but there's always one I guess!!!!!

User

The Little Match Girl. Saw this spellbinding show last night in Oxford and it’s coming to Plymouth soon.

It was an unexpectedly wonderful experience. Tears of hilarity and sadness abounded. Hugely multitalented cast. Hadn’t seen puppetry so unbelievably realistic and poignant since Warhorse . Just beautiful. With a sobering message.

See it if you can.

User

My fiance and I travelled from Bristol to see the Kite Runner last night. I read the book and saw the film, and because of the complexity of the story, I wasn't expecting the screenplay to be as true to the book, but oh my goodness! What a beautifully moving and exquisite performance by the entire cast! It was faultless. I also found the Oxford playhouse to be the most comfortable venue - the seats were just right. I agree with one of the other reviews about people insisting on crackling sweet wrappers and others looking at their phones during the performance, but thankfully, it did not deter from the enjoyment and experience. We will definitely be returning to Oxford for future productions. Thank you.

User

My 5 year old and I went to see Jack and the beanstalk last night and just wanted to say it was absolutely brilliant and we both loved it! Thank you for a great show.

User

Lovely production of The Gruffalo, thoroughly enjoyed by two two year olds. From booking tickets to ensure a good view for the little ones, to helpful ushers providing booster seats, and even toys to play with in the Bar until the Circle opened, this was a 100% child friendly experience. In addition, large toilets, plenty of room for changing nappies and impeccably clean. We all really enjoyed this day out, and will certainly visit again.

User

Loved THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG last night. My second time of seeing it. Improved seating in the auditorium made it even better. My only gripe, and this is a common one, is the cost of tickets. It was £37 a ticket (we had to sit near the front, in expensive seats, so that my elderly mother can see the stage clearly). But that doesn't detract from what is the funniest show EVER. Cried with laughter, as did my mother and my 11 year old son.

User

Kite Runner. What an exquisite production, I loved it! I was a little apprehensive how this epic story, stretching over years as well as countries, could be transposed onto any stage, but it was thrilling! Lots to fit in, yet nothing left out; there seemed to be just such a perfect pace to the changing scenes as the story unrolled, it was beautiful! I had a lump in my throat more than once, and wet cheeks. Loved the way the music underpinned everything too. Best of all, this production kept true to the tale and I always felt under the spell of a great storyteller. I cannot praise this production enough. I am so glad I managed to see it. Thank you. It deserves all the success and praise bestowed on it!

User

Jack and the beanstalk. Absolutely brilliant. Loved the modern take on it. Me and my daughter absolutely Loved it. Really interactive with the audience so felt involved with the production the whole way through. Highly recommend it to anyone xx

User

I went to see The Kite Runner, as my friend was in it. It was my first time at the Oxford Playbouse and I thoroughly enjoyed the play.

Yesterday, I saw A Streetcar named Desire, and it was absolutely amazing. I didn’t know the story that well, but I was totally spellbound and felt like I was there with them in New Orleans. The whole cast gave an outstanding performance, especially Kelly Gough. Well done and congratulations. I’m so glad that I changed my tickets from Tuesday to Saturday, I don’t think that I would have appreciated watching a read through as much.

User

I thought Nicholas Woodeson was superb in his role as Willie Loman - an actor at the peak of his emotional and creative expression. The rest of the cast were excellent too and every bit as good as the actors in the 1980s film version. The austerity of the set worked well and I liked the effect used for changing the scenes through use of the colours of the neon sign. One of the 20th century's great plays performed with conviction and skill. Deserves 6 stars!

User

Great venue. Comfy seats, good leg room, not a bad seat in the house as you are never far from the stage in this cosy theatre. Watched 'The Play That Goes Wrong' with my wife and 10-yr-old daughter. Hilarious production staged by very talented individuals following an extremely clever 'bungled' plot line assisted by the continuous failure of staging and props. I especially liked the transposition of Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society characters which are familiar to us from Peter Pan and A Christmas Carol.

User

Did not know what to expect but thoroughly enjoyed it, wife says the keep to the storyline of the book who also enjoy it.

User

A fantastic venue, beautifully laid out. Great staff, love the flat white coffee, seasalt fudge and the layout of the auditorium . the quirky way the velvet seats are set out in different colours. You can tell that its well managed and run. I think the loos could do with a facelift. I love coming to Oxford Playhouse it always feels like a special evening out. Thank you to you all

User

Having not been to this venue for a number of years a fleeting visit by the Reduced Shakespeare Company drew me back. Not the largest venue in the land, so the foyer/bar area was a crush but it was dealt with well by the numerous staff in situ.

Actual theatre looks good after its recent (ish) refurbishment although a trifle warm. But getting air con right is always a problem. Overall a good night out.
