Updates to how much a week's pay is, for both basic award and statutory redundancy pay purposes has been released. One week's pay increases from £525 to £538 for all dismissals on or after 6 April 2020.
The maximum compensatory award available for claims in the Employment Tribunal increases from £86,444 to £88,519 (or one year's salary, whichever is less).

Two new statutory instruments, allowing 2 weeks paid leave for parents on the death of a child under 18, have been published. This is good news, but the notice requirements are particularly complex, especially for a grieving parent. Many employers will no doubt be more flexible (we hope).

Did you see the outcome of the Samira Ahmed case? She won her equal pay claim. The BBC continues to maintain that the reason for pay discrepancy (with Jeremy Vine as the comparator) was unrelated to her gender, but ultimately they couldn't prove it was not sex discrimination. Employers need to be careful. Equal work demands equal pay.
