I was a bit worried about this hotel, when I originally booked our room, it was a mix of reviews. 3..5 When I went to double check booking details before leaving home and I was shock to see such a low review rating. 1.5

The hotel is a old building, and from outside it doesn't have the welcome you would expect. It needs decorating and a few minor repairs.? we were on the forth floor, room & ensuite was clean, complimentary toiletried, staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast - various options great variety breakfast lovely. Secure under cover car park ajacent to hotel. Would stay again!

oh dear- lots of bad reviews on here - our room was cheap but clean and tidy howerver it was the smallest room we have ever staydin at a hotel - 12ft x 6ft with a double bed very sad to see it going down hill - the staff were friendly and the breakfast ok but I feel Ive definately been spoilt at the Village hotel chain

I know this is an old building..but!

We have used this hotel since 2003, for school reunions and last weekend was the last..we were given refurbished rooms...but management.."get a grip of the contractors, they are cowboys...'

Such a shame, as the staff are excellent, they couldn't do enough for us...friendly, chatty, helpful and really pleasent. so sorry staff, we appreciate what you do, but will be going elsewhere in future...

Plain awful, bed had no base shower was full of mould and the room was filthy.

Place wants knocking down and rebuilding. Old and dated with holes in the roof of the function room, I didn't expect to feel the rain inside! Bar staff inadequate. Hotel overpriced. Not good.

User

Just left with a full refund, absolutely disgusting! Mould, dirty towels and beds. No apology either...

I was totally shocked!!! Use to stay there on the 90s when it was the chamberlain hotel and it was always a good stay .... my husband and myself decided to come up to Birmingham as a last min thing and traveled up after work on Sat. Now I know £68 is cheap but I have stayed at a travel lodge for £36 and though it's basic it was clean and had the basics ... we arrived at around 8.30 pm and when we were walking through the corridors the state of the doors ,carpet and windows was a sign things were not good . By the time we arrived at room 249 the smell of cannabis was sickly over powering . As for our room well stained carpet also frayed dirty bathroom floor curtains paint stained and burnt yes burnt ..... have photos to back this up. Bit late in the day to do much but braved the shower and go ahead with our plans for the evening. On our return we were greeted by water running down the wall from celleing and the tiles a wet heap on the floor, took photos and went down to reception to report ( wires exposed next to water) they were aware of situation and assumed someone must of let a tap on .... next issue noisy neighbours that had no intention of keeping it down and due to no phone in room ( along with no bins not even a sanitary one !!! just need to mention that ) I had no choice but to go down to reception ... tiles still on floor and this was a good hour and a half after reported . Did not sleep and as soon as daylight hit we were out of there. But sadly the walk back to reception to check out was no better as we passed a window with a hole in it and glass and even though the tiles had gone there was a bucked in its place and no caution signs to be found. After spending many a weekend away i notice that there is always hotel staff visible the next morning cleaning out rooms , we didn't see one . I will be sending hotel a email though I hold out no hope as if you read trip advisor mine will probably just be yet another complaint to dismiss but I will also be sending Birmingham authorities a email and photos along with trading standards as if you look on paragon website the photos they show even for standard room that we booked are not the ones they let. Another note of caution look up paragon news history and it's being used to house immigrants and there is nothing on websites saying this and unfortunately they have had lots of problems and police having to be involved.... shocking !!

Flybe put us up in this hotel last night because they cancelled our flight from Birmingham. The place is an absolute Shit Hole!!! It should be flattened to the ground!! A filthy, damp , rotten, mouldy and vile place. The 600 photos on trip advisor show it the way we experienced! They are worth a look just to show the place for what it is!!
