About Paryushan Parv: India is a land of festivals, where people of various religions coexist peacefully. There are numerous Indian festivals and celebrations, the most notable is Paryushan Prav of jainism. Paryushan Parv is an ancient religious practice in India where people avoid travel to focus on purifying themselves, advancing their knowledge and so on. Jains hope to seek forgiveness for their sins, to forgive those who have mistreated them, and to strive for higher spiritual goals. Fasting is the most important part of Paryushan. Fasting is a good way of developing self-control. According to Jainsims there are total 8 types of fasting and they are: Types of fasting: 1. Chauvihar: No food or water after sunset until at least Navkarsi(breakfast) next day2. Unodar: Eating less than you desire and to simply avoid hunger. 3. Vruti Sankshep: Limiting the number of items eaten. 4. Rasa Parityag: Giving up favourite foods. 5. Aathai: No food for constant 8 days, only boiled water. 6. Navai: No food for constant 9 days, only boiled water. 7. Solvathu: No food for constant 16 days, only boiled water. 8. Maaskhaman: To give up food and water or only food continuously for a whole monthAs we mentioned in the beginning, Paryushan is the eight days process in which the last day is as important as the day of result. The last day of paryushan is known as Samvatsari. On this day, Jains forgive and seek forgiveness for their mistakes committed knowingly or unknowingly from all the living beings. A yearly, elaborate penitential retreat called "samvatsari pratikraman" is performed on this day. After the pratikraman, Jains seek forgiveness from all the creatures of the world, including friends and relatives by uttering the phrase — "Micchami Dukkadam" or its variants like "Khamau Sa", "Uttam Kshama" or "Khamat Khamna".
