It was an absolute pleasure to meet Lady and her mum today! It’s been ages since I worked with a springer who isn’t mine so I’m looking forward to doing some work with her, over the next few weeks, on lead walking and recall!

And that’s a wrap! Today, year 4 completed their dog awareness and safety course by successfully greeting/avoiding a real life dog!
Tizer was a little nervous to begin with, having 60, 8/9 year olds surrounding him but he soon settled and thoroughly enjoyed all the strokes from the children. I’m incredibly proud of him and the children for their calm behaviour and patience.
... I’d like to say a huge thank you to Dallas Road School for giving me the opportunity to trial run the course with their children and I look forward to returning to do it all again with another year group!

So that’s the theory done with year 4 at Dallas Road today! Over the first 3 weeks, the children have learned to decide whether a dog looks approachable, how to approach and how to avoid a dog.
They’ve also learned about dogs in world war 2; which is related to their current learning topic, how to say ‘please can I stroke your dog?’ in sign language and lots, lots more!
I’ll be seeing them again in 2 weeks time for the final week, meeting a real life dog!
... If you are a teacher/TA and would like more information, or to book the course for your school; please contact me through the ‘send message’ button on my page or call me on 07946 389842

Week 3 for year 4 at Dallas Road today!

User

Thank you to year 4 for making my first run of my dog awareness and safety course for children relaxed but fun! They all had fun on Monday learning to greet Darla, one of my stooge dogs and hopefully, they’re all learning some valuable information to use in week 4; when they have the opportunity to meet one of my real dogs!

User

Prepping for my second week with Dallas Road School, printing and brushing up on my dogs in world war 2 knowledge. Bring on week 2!

Today is the day! 😬😬😬
Today, I step way out of my comfort zone and start the trials for my dog awareness and safety course for children (in front of around 60 kids!). Nerves have kicked in and I’m frantically practicing in front of my dogs.

Shadow and I went for a wander in Willibob Park this morning, keeping up his socialisation. Today we met some ducks, dogs, people and a very noisy leaf blower!

This morning I’ve had fun teaching a 13 week old patterdale puppy, called Benji, appropriate play. His owners asked me to help with his nipping at trousers and sleeves due to his needle like teeth and that puppy perseverance we all know and love. We used several different toys to teach appropriate play and introduced Benji to the ‘drop’ cue.

Our newest member of the family! Some of you may recognise Shadow, Shadow is an 8 month old Rottweiler, husky cross. I posted about him in June when he was 16 weeks old and we did some training in the heatwave! Unfortunately, his owner has been battling with a severe allergic reaction since bringing him home and with the cold weather setting in, the symptoms of the allergies have only got worse so I was asked if I could take him. He’s settling in great with our 5 springers and 4 children. If you see us out and about, please come and say hi! He’s only a pup still so socialisation needs to be kept up often to ensure his growth into a well rounded, confident dog.

This is the company I’ve been using for my artwork and bookmarks for my dog awareness and safety course for children. Fantastic quality, very reasonably priced, quick turn around and such lovely people!

Just 46 more pages of printing and laminating to go and I’m ready for the trials to commence!! 😬😬😬
Huge, massive, whalloping thank you to absolutely every single person who helped me with this. Whether it was supplying photos, sharing posts, listening to my whining, lending me items, listening to my constant babble about it or just telling me it’s a good idea (you’ve no idea how much that little comment helped me), you’ve all helped me make this what it is and I am really, re...ally grateful.
Special thanks to Lancashire Police Dog Unit and Kendal Mountain Rescue team for permission to use some of their photos.
I just hope it makes a difference!! 🤞🏼🤞🏼
