The Primary Care Addiction Service Sheffield (PCASS) is a citywide service that helps drug users to move towards recovery from addiction

Pcass Description

The Primary Care Addiction Service Sheffield (PCASS) is a citywide service that helps drug users to move towards recovery from addiction, using prescribed substitute medications, one-to-one working and a range of recovery interventions.

The service helps drug users to stay as safe and as well as possible until they can become drug free. Patients remain with their own GP for general medical services and attend PCASS to deal with any issues connected with their drug addiction.

The service offers medical treatment to patients with heroin or other opiate dependency including those who have problems with crack cocaine, benzodiazepines and other drugs. The main aim is stabilisation and freedom from illicit drug use, followed by movement towards detoxification and relapse prevention.

PCASS also runs a specialist pregnancy clinic designed to help women with drug or alcohol problems who are pregnant.

All patients must be registered with a Sheffield GP to access the service.

The service is unable to support patients under 18, patients whose primary addiction is alcohol and patients with severe mental health problems as other local services are available to offer support in these circumstances.

If you wish to be referred into the service, please speak to your GP, drug worker, social worker, probation officer, midwife, pharmacist or needle exchange worker.

All of these people can refer you for an initial assessment at the Single Point of Assessment and Referral (SPAR) which is based at the Fitzwilliam Centre where they will identify the best service to meet your needs. The SPAR telephone number is 0845 245 0370.
