Pedal Out Poverty Description

A 5, 500 Mile- Bike trek through Southeast Asia to raise £14, 000 for Blue Dragon Children's Foundation, StreetKids Asia, Philippines Outreach Centre, Wings Melaka Malaysia, East Bali Poverty Project. In 2011 /2012 I had been on holiday to Thailand and Laos, it was a holiday and not real backpacking.
Anyway after leaving I had come back with the travel bug and wanted to do the whole Southeast Asia Backpack experience.
I’m big fan of cycling as I don’t drive yet, so I cycle everywhere and love it; I had toyed with the idea of cycling across Asia but did wonder if it was possible.
So I looked into "cycling Asia" and there is heaps of advice and plenty of stories complete with routes for biking Asia. So on Google Maps I planned my route- Singapore-Hanoi. -(fly)- Manila-Davao, -(want to try if poss. , bike /ferry it2 Bali), Bali-Jakarta.
I’ve always been interested in Charity Voluntary work abroad, being able to travel the world having your own adventure whilst making an impact on people’s life’s that are less fortunate than myself. The only thing that puts me off these schemes is sometimes the high cost involved and this is why I decided to start Pedal out Poverty.
The 7 countries I’ll be cycling through have different levels of poverty some high some low and some rank near the bottom on Global Development lists. At first glance, it seems surprising that Southeast would suffer from so much poverty. The region’s tourism is booming due to its natural beauty and outstanding cultural sites. They’ve been blessed with a lengthy growing season, increasing manufacturing and trade as Chinese goods become more expensive. Yet poverty remains widespread in many areas, and South Asia has the world’s largest concentration of poor people—more than 500 million people live on less than $1. 25 a day.
I aim to raise £14, 000 cycling 5, 500 plus miles through 7 countries. I will be dividing the funds up equally with 7 charities that I have chosen.
