A few weeks ago we asked you all if you'd like to be part of The Ashton Court Consultation Group. We had a good response and have selected a great and varied squad! Industry types, weekend warriors, racers, journalists, cycling advocates, parents... they are all here! Our first meeting is on 1st November where we'll be discussing which part of the trail to rework next!

Looks like there's new evidence to suggest that downhill bikes make riding decents a breeze... #sitback #relax #handsoff #makemeacuppa

Next time someone says they can't ride a something because they don't have the right bike... 😂😂
* if you're watching with kids... Sound down... Got some rudies in the backing track.

Nice one Joe! 👊

I have a few words in this months @singletrackmag courtesy of @getthybearings. He’s written an 11 page piece on illegal trail building which is well worth a read. The Strava quote isn’t mine😜 #trailbuildingislife #digordont #piratetrails #arrggh #ayeayecaptainbirdseye #pedalprogression ⛏👌

This is my friend Joe. He's a musician, not a cyclist and he's chosen to take on a huge personal challenge to raise money for a very worthy cause. Check out his short video and if you'd also like to see the back of child slavery, get behind him. - Matt

One of the best things about bikes is being in the woods. Westonbirt Arboretum blew my mind yesterday. It was a good job it was flat as my brain would have been running wild with trail building ideas if it wasn’t😂 Forestry Commission 🍃🍂🌳🍁👌

It’s #worldmentalhealthday and our friend and local endurance hero Matthew Jones has hatched this epic challenge! Him and the Lap of My Mind team will be riding in relay 4500 miles round the coast of the UK in 20 days. The ride will be taking place in December and finishing on the shortest day of the year!
We will be supporting Matt on his leg and following the journey. They will be raising money and awareness for mental health charities The CALMzone Mind and in support of t...heir friends Mind Over Mountain who are preparing for a world record attempt next year.

Better By Bike funded trail maps landed last week, the sale of each will raise funds for the Ashton Court trails. They look awesome! Not gonna give anything away here... you’ll have to pop in and have a look for yourself!

User

Sole Cycling came in to make a donation to the trails yesterday! It was great to see the guys and we’re thankful for their gesture. If you’d like to contribute to Ashton Courts ongoing trail maintenance you can donate at www.pedalprogression.com/about/advocacy #nofilter #badphoto #sorry

Yesterday we were at the opening of the newly designed Hillfields pump track, built by Velosolutions UK. There’s a jump line behind it too, both surfaced with tarmac to keep it running sweet in the winter. Huge props to Access Sport for making this possible. We are blessed to have so many fun places to ride in Bristol!

User

Less than a week ago, we posted to say people could now donate to trail maintenance on our website. Well we'd like to say a massive thank you on behalf of all the mountain bikers in Bristol... So far we've had over £800 come in! AMAZING!
This week we've spoken to Architrail and are looking to schedule some time in before Christmas where we can get working on revamping the next section of trail.
Which section is that you ask? Well, that's somewhat up to you. We're looking to ...create a 'steering group' of (a maximum) 15 users that are committed to seeing positive change around Ashton Courts trails. This group will serve to agree on which sections are worked on next, how the money is spent and bring positive ideas to the table. If that interests you, please send me a message - matt@pedalprogression.com If you have already emailed and I've not yet responded, I promise I will get back to you, I've just been very busy!
If you'd like a catch up on all that's been achieved this year, we've written you a summary here >>>>>> https://www.pedalprogression.com/trail-ad vocacy-the-story-…/
Have a great weekend everyone!

😂😂As someone who puts on a pair of bib shorts to ride 3.5 miles to work this cracked me up! And yes...we can laugh at the roadies but us mountain bikers are just the same! Whether you like to keep it casual, or are an 'all the gear' kinda rider, the most important thing is that you get out and ride! :-)

User

Amazing news from the Mendip Mountain Bikers, great to see the trails getting granted 'official' status thanks hard work and positive cooperation with land owners!

User

What a great day thanks to Matt for the training, see you soon.

User

Very nice trails to suit all abilities in the vicinity and helpful guys..went out this morning,[with experienced friend] 2 hrs is plenty for the ''less fit'' for a good workout, bikes well serviced [no full suspensions].. just remember your photo ID and a bank card :) edit : for new mountain bike riders of any age, tuition is invaluable..so very different from road riding :)

Today I had my first coaching session, a 3 hour 1-2-1 with Sam Fowler. I booked this having spoken to a guy at the Southern Enduro at Minehead. I saw a Pedal Progression sticker on his bike which was a series of prompts (chin up, arms out etc...) I thought this was cool and asked him about it. He told me about the coaching and highly recommended it. I later spoke to two separate friends about this where they also recommended it. After this I phoned to enquire what they could offer me. I had a great chat with both Matt and Sam where I booked the session.

The session was quality, from start to finish the level of instruction was first rate. Some great tips, hints and demonstrations through-out. At no point did I feel at risk, embarrassed or patronised which I feel is testament to Sam’s coaching technique. Filming and playback played a big part in reviewing and explaining body position. The camera doesn’t lie.

I cannot recommend a 1-2-1 enough. To some this may seem expensive but I can honestly say it is money well spent. Relatively it is cheep compared to some shiny bits that we buy for our bikes. I feel this is quite possibly the single most beneficial payment in terms of becoming a better/more competent rider than buying new wheels/eagle/bars or other stuff.

I will be booking another session.

User

Three hour coaching session with Sam. Brilliant! Great fun and insightful instruction. Spotted every bad habit engrained over the years and put me back on the right path. Well paced session with loads covered. Went away with changes to bike set up, attack position, trail focus and some quality homework to get me to next level.

User

The guys have just carried out a fork swap on my bike. Excellent service at a very competitive price. Went above and beyond and gave the bike a check over as part of the process, giving recommendations and advice on the general up keep. I will definitely use again for my workshop needs. Fantastic !

User

Thank you so much for Lexi’s lesson today. She improved so much and had really gained confidence! Thank you for your time, patience and for all of the phone/email support before we came today. Brilliant, kind service.

User

Recently took a three hour course with Sam. My riding style has changed completely. Now quicker, more stable and much more confident. Loving it. Thoroughly recommended. You won't regret the investment and will learn loads. Thanks Sam. I'll be back!

User

Really enjoyed my first session learning loads of different techniques and body positioning, really enjoyed all aspects, especially on the trails and working on feet postioning. Definitely worth it and will be back again soon.

User

My son is a keen rider but lacks skills, so he was thrilled at the Little Rippers course he attended in Leigh Woods last week. He had a marvellous 3 hours with Ollie & has been practising every day since! We'll certainly call & see if there are any events scheduled for young riders next time we're in Bristol. Thank you!

User

Little Rippers Jumps & Drops (11-14 years olds). What excellent value for 5 hours tuition. My son enjoyed every minute of Part 1 and Part 2. He's learnt new skills and has come away a better rider. Thank you Ollie, hope you're able to offer more sessions for teens in the future. Particularly interested in guided rides, jumps, skills etc. Thanks again :)

User

I've only had time to get Isaac up for one session so far. He absolutely loved it and can't wait to get back!

User

I have just got back from a three hour 1-2-1 bespoke tuition session with Matt from Pedal Progression. This was a Christmas gift from my wife.

I got so much out of the session, despite some very typical British weather. I am already 100% certain that I am a better and more confident rider as a result of these three hours. Matt was knowledgeable and patient, and very encouraging when I was doing things right, without ever being patronising in the slightest. Things were broken down into clear stages so that I could get a really good understanding of what is happening with each action. He was also sensitive to the fact that I was nowhere near as fit and healthy as him and was more than happy for me to stop and catch my breath whenever I wanted. It was all at a pace that I felt comfortable with (that’s not to say I’m not totally knackered now though!).

I thought I was a pretty decent rider before the session started, and Matt confirmed that I was doing some things quite well, but I was amazed at how the instruction and drills felt like they were just immediately transforming my riding. Just small changes to my posture were making massive differences to how I felt on the bike. I now feel that I have a solid foundation of correct technique to build on. At the end of the session we went for a ride around the Ashton Court trails and although I was getting tired at that point, I truly can say I was cornering with more confidence and speed than I ever have before. I now understand how to use my body to manipulate the bike properly. This is not something that, in my opinion, any video on YouTube can teach you. We covered lots of fundamental skills and I feel that it was really good value.

To summarise then, I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Pedal Progression to anyone. The things I was being shown just very clearly worked. The cost may initially seem high, but trust me when I say that out of the thousands of pounds I have spent on bikes, components and gear, this is the best money I have spent. Now I am going to practise all the things I learned today and book another session in the springtime once my manuals and bunnyhops are better so that I can learn how to hit jumps.

Thanks again to Matt and the guys at Pedal Progression.

User

Hired two bikes, which were great and had loads of fun doing the Nova trail and went to Leigh woods for a ride as well. Will definitely be back again.

User

Highly recommend getting all your servicing done with Ross. He did an excellent job, my bike now rides better than new and all for a very competitive price. I will be bringing my bikes here for the foreseeable future.

User

Had such an awesome day today, hiring bikes from Matt & Paul and riding fun trails in Ashton Court and Leigh Woods. Bikes were really high quality, really responsive and so easy to ride. Also at a great price. Cheers guys!

User

Had my first lesson today with Matt, learned so much and can't wait for my next session. Brilliant coach and lots of laughs along the way. Can't recommend highly enough. If you want to improve go and see these guys.

User

Had a half day coaching session with Ollie yesterday. Fantastic fun and supremely useful - can't wait to try to put the new techniques into action on the trails!

Covered a lot of ground including correct body position, vision and cornering technique. Ollie struck an excellent balance between doing drills and practicing the technique on the trails. He was brilliant at explaining the context and purpose behind anything he was teaching me and helpfully related it to other sports to aid understanding.

Grate value for money. Will definitely be booking again when I'm ready for the next stage.

User

Brilliant coaching, great demos and explanations and feedback as you go along. If you want to improve your riding skills I would definitely recommend Sam and Matt at pedalprogression.

User

Booked my 6 year old son on the 6 week fundamental coarse. He was a bit young but they saw him beforehand and said he would be okay as he had been riding for a while. He loved going each Saturday and was always excited especially as he really liked the intructor (Ollie Cain). Although my son had riden alot before the coarse, we went to holden forest and I was amazed how well he could control the bike and his confidence was great I didnt feel on edge like before, we just rode behind and genuinely enjoyed the ride for the first time. I can definitely recomend this coarse and another plus is you have enough time to rip round ashton court on your own bike.
