Pen-y-ghent is possibly my favorite hill in the UK. True, it isn't a huge rugged mountain but it has a character and shape and size that no other offers. The adventurous climb from the south, up the great stone 'Giants Staircase' to the top. The genteel climb arrive from the north or the west, up gradual slopes to the summit. Once on the flat top, there is plenty of sheltered room for a picnic (hot tomato soup and cheese sandwiches of course) and whether on the way up or down, look out for the fascinating pot holes and limestone stack on the track to Horton to the west.

Great time had by all will do it again in better weather.

Great place to ride my motor bike, the road from Stainforth past Pen-y-ghent to Halton Gill and then on to Kettlewell is narrow, winding up and down in fabulous country. A truly beautiful part of the world, just watch out for the sheep who wander all over the road.

I did this as part of the Yorkshire 3 peaks and was my favourite peak of them all. A challenge rocky area to climb at the top but good fun and the views were just spectacular!
