Thanks to Daniel for the great 5 star review on Booking.com! "The best stay I've ever had anywhere! Simply put.... Perfect! Daniel, United States of America (11/10/18) Good: In my 37 years I have never stayed in an accommodation as nice as Pendley Manor. The staff has a thorough understanding in the art of customer service, the rooms were large, warm, clean, beautiful, and inviting. They have large flat screen TVs, a mini fridge, a safe, table and chairs, a lounge chair, extremely comfortable beds, and plenty of room for a traveling family of four. I've never been as pleased with an overnight stay as I was at Pendley Manor. Thank you for understanding what people want as well as providing the best care I've ever seen anywhere. You made a great memory for my family!" www.booking.com/hotel/gb/pendleymanor.en. html?tab=4

This review has been written by my daughter and son in law because my daughter doesn't have Facebook.

Our daughter Jemma was married to Matthew on the 22nd April. We really cannot put into words how amazing the staff at Pendley were, from the minute we arrived on Friday until we left on Monday morning. The attention to detail , nothing was too much trouble, a special mention to Hugo, Rob and Jannica for their help at the weekend and over the past few months. The food was great , the setting beautiful and the presence of the peacocks just added to the special day .

We cannot express in words what a special day we had, this venue is wonderful and we would highly recommend it if you are looking for somewhere to hold a wedding

.We have memories that will last a lifetime. Thank you one and all

The storey party had three rooms booked on the 28 aug ....after reading some reviews all I can say is I feel sorry for the ppl whom had bad things to say about the hotel 'but some ppl like to find something to moan about to try and get money off' we where all happy with our rooms/spa area 'which was fab' and also the abundance of breakfast...I hope I'm in the area again as there'll be no hesitation in me booking again ...a very happy mr storey.

Having been to Pendley many (many) times this was only my second ever overnight stay (the other being 6+ years ago). The Christmas party held this year was superb and the team at Pendley excelled themselves from the first to last minute. We stayed in one of the newly refurbished rooms which are amazing, great space and HUGE comfy bed. The F&B team are on top of their game here, all food was served promptly with a smile and best of all delicious and piping hot (not the usual tepid fayre when catering for 100+ guests at once).

A big thank you to the entire team but especially Pedro who ran a very prompt ship on the night, & Claire who managed our booking for us.

If you are in the area and in need of a place to stay Pendley has to be #1 choice.

Christmas Party (10 out of 10)

So after a night that can not be forgotten for a long time to come I'm writing this on here for you all to hear. So the night start with a bang drink in the ballroom bar where the atmosphere was 10 out of 10.

Now time to enter the room and sit down for dinner, room was amazing very cozy and staff welcoming helping along the way to find our tables. Food start to arrive we all had 3 course and all I can say if 10 out of 10, Needed to do that childhood dream of licking the plat clean and hope no one was watching.....

Onto the evening party where the entertainment was so funny Dolly Parton was a smash hit that I didn't see coming and then a DJ that was not just a DJ but a sing/DJ as i have already said 10 out of 10.

Staff where amazing both behind the bar and on services. Outstanding venue will be back next year.

User

A wonderful afternoon tea in the beautiful dining room. The food was delicious and endless, but the staff managed to keep our plates full and tea flowing - despite a room packed with excitable family reunions, they moved amongst us efficiently & discreetly with little disruption but lots of smiles! Thank you for a wonderful afternoon

User

A perfect stay from first minute to last. My Wife and I plus 3 year old stayed for my wifes 35th and upon arrival were greeted with the news they had upgraded our room to accommodate space for our son. Complimentary chocolates in our spacious, warm family room greeted us and once settled the two hours in the spa and pool were idyllic. After a restful night we explored the picturesque grounds and said hi to the peacocks! We will be back for sure ... thank you so much šŸ˜€. My son left his tablet in the room after we checked out so a call from the staff 30 minutes later to say they had found it topped the experience off. 5/5 highly recommended.

User

A big thank you to Pendley Manor for hosting our wedding last weekend! Beautiful setting (with peacocks!), the ops team worked tirelessly to helped decorate our reception room and our guests had a fantastic time. Especially thank you to Frances, our wedding coordinator, who helped massively with organising and in the run up to the wedding, and Pedro who made sure it all ran smoothly on the wedding day itself!

User

We had a very good stay, the room was refurbished and excellent may I add, some areas tired but i think they are working along the building to up date.

Restaurant food in the evening was lovely, as was Breakfast the following morning

The staff are friendly and attentive

I will stay again soon ...

Stayed here for 1 night. The first room we were given in the refurbished part wad lovely but it had an adjoining door and the neighbours were extremely noisy. Reception staff were great and switched us to an upgraded room without question. The food we had was lovely in the evening but we choose the pork belly at first only to be told after we ordered that it had ran out. The facilities In the room were good the view from the windows was disappointing due the scaffolding which we were not advised of when we booked the room on the phone. The breakfast was tasty and plentiful but could have been hotter. Our breakfast table was not set properly no napkins no milk no butter but we took them from other tables. Over all it was a pleasurable experience and I would visit again maybe over the Xmas period 2017 if the refurbishment is complete.

Iā€™ve stayed at Pendley Manor on quite a few occasions, some very good and some not so good. This time we were in a refurbished room and it was very good, plenty of space, big lcd tv, huge bed and good bathroom and shower.

We were there this time for a Murder Mystery event which was excellent. Food during the event was very good and the table staff were great.

Iā€™d have given a fifth star if it was for a) the crazy drink prices, and bar staff. Itā€™s a small bar but for most of the evening there was only one person serving. This took so long we actually missed a vital part of the murder mystery questioning. Last point is the the chap behind the bar, although ok at his job, has the most expressionless face Iā€™ve ever seen. We tried a bit of conversation with him but were left with a blank look from him so gave up.

I wouldnā€™t let this put you off the hotel as itā€™s very good and if you want a cheaper drink and jovial host, thereā€™s a very good pub about a mile away on Tring high street.

User

A very nice place with charm, history and character, a world away from the ubiquitous chain hotels, which have their own place but nice to find somewhere different, definitely worth a visit and a stay or even a chillax.

User

We went for Afternoon tea but it was very disappointing. Right at the start were not greeted. Asked at reception and told to go to the far room. Found our way there but not sure what table was ours. Sat at one but a long time before anyone came to say hello and offer options. No options for types of tea. Service was slow and poor. China used was very thick and cafeteria like.

Selection of sandwiches and cakes ok but nothing special. We ran out of jam and tea but had almost finished before someone came and we could ask for more. It waz nof busy, most tables empty. Very disappointing compared to many other afternoon tea experiences. It was for my sister's birthday. I would not recommend it to anyone.

User

Had a lovely refurbished room just a shame the shower didnā€™t drain

Second night we had a suite (we only stayed due to the poor weather) very different experience , plug in radiator curtains didnā€™t cover the windows and we overlooked the car park so it was a bit annoying and the floor was awful every step the floor boards moved and creaked and we could hear next door walking around their room the floor was so bad. You also had to slam the doors to get them shut which was bad when next door did it I actually thought they were coming in our room.

User

Grounds are gorgeous!

Food was good.

Staff were friendly.

The room we had was very poor, the bathroom particularly.

User

Good room but breakfast terrible, no milk no beans and when we were given the beans to go with our already eaten they were cold!

User

Food was very poor for my daughters prom, not enough to go round and not great quality for the price!!, alot of girls went to McDonald's to fill up on way home

User

What a shame, love Pendley but we had a very cold room on arrival. Our room was very tired, the refurbishment canā€™t come soon enough. The plumbing was poor, cold showers are invigorating but I had to kneel in the bathtub to shower because the shower head bracket had broken. The ā€œbuilt inā€ hairdryer had the force of an asthmatic kitten. Pendleys staff are great but the rooms in the main house are in dire need of attention.

Myself and 3 friends originally booked a spa day for 11th feb (through Maggie) but was later swapped to 25th as there were therapists in on that day as we wanted some treatments. We emailed on Thursday (22nd feb) indicating what treatments we all wanted and were told that because of the short notice we were unable to book them. We werenā€™t told that we needed to book these treatments by a certain date or time and even in the email confirming the 25th it said ā€˜could we please have a list of names of the group as this will help with booking treatments ON THE DAY 24 hours beforeā€™, this is even saying we are able to book treatments ON THE DAY. We drove from High Wycombe thinking we were still going to have a nice relaxing day and afternoon tea. When we arrived we were shown the facilities and where we would be having the afternoon tea. It got to 1pm which is the time we PRE-booked our tea for and walked into the Willow room where we were shown earlier on, it was piled up with unused tables and chairs. At this point we were still in our robes and flip flops so we found the man who showed us around and asked where we go for our afternoon tea, he said you have to go to the bar and ask in which we went to the bar to ask and they said that the afternoon tearoom is fully booked as we have a party so we can either sit in the bar or the restaurant. We were all so puzzled at the fact our reservation was not ready and had to ask for it to be set up (this was booked in advance for 3 weeks) so we ended up sitting in the bar in our robes and flip flops for afternoon tea with other fully clothed guests drinking and celebrating, it was a very uncomfortable feeling. I emailed our thoughts and feelings through to Maggie saying how appalled we were at the lack of organisation they have to offer, there was nothing ā€˜rightā€™ about our day. At the time we were offered a guest leisure day pass as compensation and thought that we would have afternoon tea included as we paid for it on our previous visit and agreed that we would return once refurbishments had taken place. We have since been in contact again and it has come to light that we will not receive any lunch or afternoon tea so to make up for the horrible day we had theyā€™re offering us a day of swim, sauna and hot tub all which we can get at our local leisure centre for Ā£6. We do not want to make the drive just for that, we deserve what we paid for (Ā£160) and since requesting the manager even, they are still saying there is nothing more they can offer us and that afternoon tea in the bar normal procedure but states no where on their website that this is normal. It is not normal procedure to have guestes running round after staff to get things set up. I WOULD NOT recommend Pendley Manor to anyone, you will not receive the relaxing spa service they advertise and even if THEY get it very very wrong you will not receive anything for it. Money grabbing and do not seem to care.

Avoid, avoid! We went in October 2017 and our first room was freezing as the heating wasn't working in the old part of the hotel. So, we were moved to a beautiful new room. It too had no heating and we ended up asking for an extra duvet and were also brought 2 small radiators (which did nothing).

We complained on checking out and the receptionist wasn't interested that were didn't have a good stay, she just wanted us to pay our extras for our bill. So, we complained and spoke to the manager Ricardo (who was lovely), he could not apologise enough and gave us a small discount (30% off our room) and asked us not to be put off and please come back, he would look after us. So, January came and we called the hotel, emailed the new manager Claire and she gave us a complimentary night stay and breakfast. So we booked for 9th February. We arrived, checked in, positive that everything would be ok this time. We were went to our new superior room (number 148) and immediately was hit with a terrible smell of sewerage!!! We just got ready, thinking the smell would go away, made sure the "heating was on, according to the instructions we were given" and went for dinner then came back to our FREEZING COLD room!!!! We called down and asked for some additional radiators, explained this happened before and that we would like to cancel our second nights stay (which we were paying for) as it was just too cold, the Heating wasn't working AGAIN!!! We gave the hotel a second chance and it clearly hasn't changed one bit, on checking out the receptionists were not surprised at all by what we told them and they said that they had been having problems will the sewerage system and were having a bad smell and that the builders were not working at the moment so it wouldn't be sorted out yet, and also said that the heating wasn't working in some rooms! This is just shocking, plus they are charging top prices for shoddy, smelly rooms. We will never ever go to Pendley Manor again and I'd advise everyone I know and don't know never to go there either.
