Think of a calming and encouraging phrase to repeat to yourself if you’re feeling low. Speaking kindly to ourselves is an excellent way to practice self-care. #selfcarejanuary

It is often easier said than done, but giving yourself permission to say no to requests from others is important. #selfcarejanuary

More than 21,000 women in the UK are diagnosed each year with a gynaecological cancer but the awareness of these cancers and their symptoms is very low. January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month but we are taking the opportunity to look at other cancers that affect women. https://buff.ly/2T3pYT3 #cervicalcancerawarenessmonth #bringcolourtocancer

We know it’s easily done, but making unnecessary plans can be a cause of stress. Why not take the pressure off and cancel any unessential plans for the coming week? #selfcarejanuary

The University of Bristol are looking for participants to help with a Medical Student Symposium on Living with Dying on 14th January, in order to find out helpful ways in which medical professionals can support the process of helping people live well while preparing to die well. The session will take place between 9.30 am and 12.30 pm in the medical school at the lower end of St Michael's Hill in Clifton, Bristol. Please email Stacey.Taylor@pennybrohn.org.uk to sign up or for further information.

has too much to say in one post ... & a paradox is... that one of the main strengths of Penny Brohn is that it allows one to come to quietness in order to figure out one's own healing.. Another strength is the variety of support & treatments available... qualified medical practitioners, thorough nutritional guidance & example, telephone access to advice & suggestions...

I feel so lucky, as a Bristolian, that I can access the National Centre so easily.. I also have benefited from meeting folk from many places while on residential courses there..

HUMUNGOUS THANK YOUS

We were privileged enough to have this beautiful space for the weekend to run a retreat. This truly is a peaceful and soul-healing place. The staff are amazing and so kind and helpful.

We have just come home after doing "The Approach" course. I reiterate what everyone else says. This place is amazing! Such a wonderful holistic place. Beautiful house and gardens. Delicious healthy meals, clean comfortable bedrooms. The course has again left us feeling supported, positive and with more tools in our bag. The doctor and nutritionists 1:1 sessions are such a valuable resource. I'm feeling empowered and supported. I know there are loads of things to do that make a difference and there is always hope. If you're feeling like there's nothing you can do and there's no support for you - book yourself in for your first course - "the living well" course and let your journey begin.

Thank you to all you wonderful people at Penny Brohn. Much love sent your way . P.s. Don't worry if you're thinking it's too expensive. It's all free. Donations are vital but depends on your circumstances. Give what you can And lots of fund raising ideas too. I'm looking forward to doing the healthy eating day in September, my Dr and nutritionist follow up appointments and to doing one of "the retreat" courses in the near future. I wish i lived closer to come every week to the weekly activities like yoga and nordic walking.

We have been on the3 day approach course

It has been a wonderful experience, it's given me such hope for the future and some wonderful ideas to help me through the next six months of chemo.

Met some inspirational people and felt very supported.

I couldn't recommend the centre more highly for anyone going through or has had cancer and their careers.

User

This place and the whole PB organisation are both wonderful examples of what many people need, whether they are ill or not. Caring and thoughtful staff, a tranquil and well-designed environment, useful information and above all, a sense of optimism and purpose.

User

This is an amazing, supportive centre. Every time I come back it’s like coming home. The staff are wonderful and I cannot say enough about how much each visit means to me. It doesn’t matter which course or retreat I am attending, each visit helps me reset my mind and teaches me what is important to help me live with Cancer - live well! Thank you 🙏 everyone ❤️

User

This is an amazing place that helps people live well with cancer, staffed by the most wonderful people, many volunteers, many of whom have recovered from cancer.

I was attending a course run by the College of Medicine, and it was an excellent venue for the conference.

User

Such a beautiful, peaceful place. I would recommend the ‘Living Well’ course to anyone with a cancer diagnosis.

Penny Brown is a unique space. I can’t sing it’s praises enough. They run on donations and provide all their formidable array of services for free to those living with cancer and their supporters. They are a warm hearted, dedicated group of people whose skills and works are invaluable.

Also the building and grounds especially are beautiful. Bristol is blessed beyond belief that such a place exists!

User

Penny Brohn offers an absolutely fabulous 2 day course. It was really useful learning tools to help one live with cancer and work with other people who were in the same boat. We found it really useful and met some wonderful new friends.

The professionals running the course are really first class and the food and facilities are better than we could have hoped for. I thank all those wonderful people who have walked the moon walk and donated to Penny Brohn as you have made such an impact into other peoples lives.

User

Penny Brohn is great charity offering a wonderful support to cancer patients and their families. The weekend dedicated to young people affected by cancer allowed me to connect with people of my generation in order to share our experience. The site and facilities are breathtaking, the staff are wonderful, patient, respectful and kind. The charity offers a large panel of activities that would suit everyone's interest - highly recommended.

My sister & I loved our stay on the Living Well Course at Penny Brohn & I have 4 friends already saying they will go too! We especially enjoyed the food, the comfortable beds, Victoria the dietician , & Marcus our Group Leader.

User

I've worked here for 15 years so maybe i'm biased. But I know we genuinely try to live up to our ideals and meet everyone with kindness, compassion and authenticity. And I know how many people have found sanctuary here, and hope and a way forward.

User

I've just spend an amazing time at the Penny Brohn UK for a ''Living Well with the impact of cancer course''... What an informative, supportive and understanding approach! They go into details about the different stages cancer patients go through, and how important it is for family members to be included in the healing process and equally receive help and support.

I've been there before but I'm amazed every time I go, and always wonder what I could do, to help raise money for this fantastic cancer charity - so that I could join all those who are making it possible, (for them to carry on with their amazing work) through donations. I suspect that the staff/volunteers there are hand picked based on a specific trait of character which I believe to be COMPASSION. The place, the building, the people and services are simply Top of the Range... Do not take my words for it. Go check it out and let me know what you think. Grace

I have just spent a few days on the Nourishing Resources retreat. Feeling calm, relaxed and supported.

I can't recommend Penny Brohn highly enough. This is the place to go when you need hug of support. You are looked after as soon as you walk through the door, from reception staff, the kitchen staff and the wonderful course facilitators.

You come away with the confidence and strength to keep moving forward. I'm proud to be part of the Penny Brohn family.

I have just come home from spending a couple of days here doing the Introductory "Living Well with Cancer" - what an amazing 2 days ! I have met and bonded with a group of strong inspiring people dealing with cancer at different stages, and have learnt so much - the facilitors where fantastic!.

The Centre is fantastic - everything has been really thought out for comfort ease and practicality. The food - is top notch too ! I I cant wait to do a follow up course in a few weeks time ! I highly recommend anyone who has a Cancer diagnosis to get here - it fills the gap where friends family and the medical team cannot help with.

User

First time at Penny Brohn today, super relaxing, insightful and uplifting. Thank you so much, a real treat xxx

User

Emotional, educational and stunningly beautiful. Wonderful place with wonderful people, can't wait to visit again for the approach course.

Week and a half on from residential coping with the impact of cancer diagnosis and I feel positive, energised, relaxed and at peace with my health situation. I've made changes in my diet and the course has made me feel different. Hopeful for the future however long it ends up being I plan to soak up all that's around me and my loved ones. I will be forever mindful and always remember my magical stay at penny Brohn as a turning point to living better.

Thank you so much to all the staff and those who donate funds to keep these courses running.

User

Amazing resource for people struggling with this disease.

When first diagnosed, I was scared, withdrawn and couldn't get any answers locally. A cousin recommended the centre and i came on a couple of courses which i can honestly say changed my life. I left having spent 2 days and a wonderful 2 nights relaxed, confident and ready to carry on. the staff are so caring but also offered relevant, current information on dealing with, supporting and moving on from this disease. I learn't how to change my diet to support my treatment, relaxation techniques, which have made me a different person (no exaggeration).

Cant thank you enough, what a resource , many more people should know about this.
