The museum is reputedly one of the most haunted sites in the city, with many ghosts said to be lurking around the building. This tour sets out to uncover some of their stories.
The tour is led by a costumed guide, who shows visitors around the building by candlelight, explaining the various paranormal happenings at the sites where they have taken place, including the back stairs, where people have reported a ghostly servant falling to her death, a phantom girl seen and heard ...in recent months, the story of the museum’s most notorious ghost, the ‘Lonely ANZAC’ Thomas Hunter.
£5 adults, £3 under 16s Due to limited places, tickets are strictly pre-booked only. To book, please visit our website or call Peterborough Museum 01733 864 663. Tours last about 90 minutes. The tour is not recommended for under 14s or those of a nervous disposition, and due to the nature of the building is unsuitable for those with mobility impairments.

Explore the museum’s 500 year old cellars with a guide as ghosts from the past tell their stories.
The cellars have original features, including windows from the Tudor house, the Georgian wine cellar, coal cellar and a room we used as an air raid shelter during World War II. But they also have a sinister side, being part of Peterborough's most haunted building. So we recommend they are not suitable for those aged under 8 or of a nervous disposition!
Tickets: £4 adults, £3 und...er 16s
Booking is essential for this evening tour. To book please call the Museum on 01733 864 663 or book online using the event link.

We're delighted to announce another session of this popular workshop, on 9 May! It's a little longer than our March session, just to take the pressure off. We already have a waiting list, so get in quick! 🏃‍♀️

Spend the evening weaving a plant support for your garden. You can make a 6' tall climber with a 1' diameter base for climbing beans or sweet peas. Or you can make a smaller support or cloche for flowers, such as peonies. Learn how to grow, harvest and prepare willow. Weave using basketry techniques such as a 3 rod wale and pairing. Also learn two types of willow bindings which tie rods together, instead of using string.
Your expert tutor has been growing and weaving with w...illow in Peterborough for 20 years and has experience working with garden designers for the Chelsea Flowers show.
£30 per person.
Booking is essential for all our workshops. To book, please visit our website or call Peterborough Museum at 01733 864663. If you require any further information, please call the Museum or email museum@vivacity.org

User

What a fantastic museum! I visited today with my 5.5 and 1.5 year old children and they both loved it! The whole museum is well laid out, very clean (including the toilets!) and the cafe is nice and not over priced. The exhibits are nicely hands on (without depending on screens like so many museums do). The staff are very friendly and helpful too. This museum was a very lovely surprise!

User

Went with my nephew today to see the animals, we were also given a treasure hunt. This took us around the whole museum and we were in awe! We loved it and all the staff were really friendly.

User

We visited today for the first time, not really sure what to expect. However, we had a lovely few hours walking around. The actual museum was good but what really made it enjoyable was the Tudor re-enactments that were really interesting. My children (7 and 8) were fascinated, particularly by the man and teenage boy (Rhys I think) who were talking about crime and punishment.. They must have spent half an hour talking to my girls and letting them have a go at the different weapons. They really brought the history to life for them. Def recommend.

User

We had a ball yesterday, thank you! We took our time and didn't rush it. The children come to the museum often so they loved that it was a little different this time. The experiments were fab and all for £3! Brilliant x

User

Visited today for the first time which is a travesty really because I've lived a short drive from Peterborough for 22 years. Didn't expect much for a free museum but pleasantly surprised by how good it is! Brilliant exhibitions, super friendly staff, a brilliant way to spend an afternoon. We did the vault tour too and that was definitely the highlight!! For a small fee, I recommend it!

User

Very interesting information, I learned a few things, interesting art and tasy refreshments!

User

One of the first port of call for me to introduce my son to his birthplace and history associated with Peterborough and the world.

Brilliant place from 24 yrs ago and it's an even better place now. A must do visit for school holiday's.

User

I visited today, for the first time, along with my children 16, 3, nearly 1 and their Dad. It coincidentally coincided with their dino trail. It was a perfect day out for the whole family. There was detailed information for older people and loads of interactive displays for our 3 year old. She especially liked the fossils and the x rays of the fossils. There were lots of dressing up opportunities too. The fact that this is normally free is fabulous. We spent from 10-3 there ( bar a quickly rekki into town for lunch) and the 3 year old still did not want to leave. The event was suitable for her age ( and had a different option for older children) with various activities to complete on each floor. Testing the dinosaur wee was her favourite!!!! We will be returning. Well done

User

Had a great day here yesterday. My son enjoyed the Dino Trail very much as well as all the displays. We spend the best part of three hours here. Lots to see and do. Hope to visit again soon.

User

Great for visits great for kids activities and great for parties. Definitely worth a visit or two or three...

User

A fantastic place of learning that is enjoyed by both young and old.....Great to have it in our fair city.

User

A big thank you to Kieran for his friendly and informative tour of the vaults. My grandaughter and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

User

Visited the museum today with my 8yr old. We enjoyed the interactive trail and loved the dinosaurs and fossils. A thankyou to the lady who told us all about the animal skulls she was great and explained things at just the right level. Quite disappointed with the zoo- seum exhibition, we were expecting a bit more than 6 small animals in tiny travel cases, and I found the animal helpers unengaging.

User

Visited in the half term as we usually do, for the unbelievable bodies event. My boys absolutely love the museum, exploring each room with great interest- especially the fossils. However, it was the first time I was ever told that under 5s go free and although I don’t mind paying as I know the money goes towards the museum upkeep etc it maybe more staff training is needed to keep visitors informed. I feel a little bit disappointed that sometimes the staff don’t really interact with the visitors as much as they could. Through the whole trail there was only 2 staff interactions and those were not very enthusiastic and seem to struggle to engage with smaller children. I remember going to one of your events in the past where there were actors and rooms full of interesting things for the kids to explore and learn. Would love for that fun spirit to return! That being said we always have a lovely couple of hours here and we look forward to returning.

User

Took my youngest 2 to see the lizards, snakes and baby meerkat yesterday! They had a lovely time, including the bird hunt around the musuem. Lots to see and interactive items to keep kids engaged. Will definitely try to get back when other activities are on.

User

Peterborough museum is ace...they have some really interesting displays and art work. However I attended a wreath making session with 2 friends yesterday morning and was not impressed. It was nothing related to the museum but vivacity events. Once I've heard from the manager I will complete my review

User

My 10 year old enjoyed the Egyptian activities. I'm a little unsure why adults were charged £4 though! Really don't mind paying for my kids to do the activities but not really sure what the adults are paying for! Maybe £1 or even £2 at a push for the adults but £4? Bit disappointing.
